Recently assembled and tried bike. There seems to be a catch/hitch in the rotation when pedal at bottom. It should be smooth. What could be wrong and how to fix?

It's probably the bottom bracket bearing. Exercise bikes typically have really, really cheap bearings in them. I have the same problem on my Horizon M4 with a lot of bearing chatter when doing standing high resistance.

Power cord overheats

The thermostat is not shutting the unit down and cycling it on/off as it should. This will cause the power cord to overheat and it will catch fire. STOP using this unit and either replace it or have it repaired. More than likely cheaper to just replace it.
