Opened bleeder valve on charger 2.7. Only vapor comes out. Bad pump or thermostat?


Continue to add water until the vapor "lock" is purged of all air. All coolant bleeders are supposed to reside higher than the radiator/coolant filling area...the coolant should flow out of the bleeder valve before tightening the bleeder shut.

There's trapped air in the cooling system.
  • You need to remove the bleeder screw on top of the radiator when adding water to the expansion tank.
  • With the engine running, pour water into the expansion tank till you see air go out through the bleeder screw's hole.
  • Just keep adding water until no more air bubbles come out then just put the screw back in place.
  • Then fill the expansion tank to it's normal level/line.

Dodge durango 2004 hemi over heating after all the repairs i have done new radiator,water pump hoses , clutch fan, radiator cap and 3 different thermostats,


The cooling system has to be bleed of air.To do this locate the bleeder on the coolant inlet on engine. Remove the bleeder and the radiator cap, fill with coolant until there are no more air bubbles coming out of bleeder. Top off resivor close bleeder replace cap. Start and let it get to normal operating temp, If all is good now you are finished. If it still overheats let it cool off until there is no pressure on upper hose .Carefully remove cap and repeat bleeding process

I have a 2003 chevy impala. just changed the thermastat because the temperature was fluxuating. Since changing the thermastat the temperature gage constantly read in the red, however the coolant level...


You probably need to bleed the cooling system properly.

Open the cooling system bleeder screws.

Slowly fill the cooling system with a 50/50 coolant mixture until coolant runs freely out of bleeder screws.
Close the cooling system bleeder screws
Install the coolant pressure cap
Start the engine.
Run the engine at 2,000 - 2,500 RPM until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. (midway on gauge)
Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes.
Shut the engine off.
Allow the engine to completely cool.
Top off the coolant as necessary.
Run engine again at 2000 - 2500 RPM until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
Allow engine to idle until cooling fans come on. It should come on with the gauge about 3/4 of the way to red. - if it gets to where is touches the red, shut down immediately.
When the fan comes on, put your hand behind the fan and observe the temperature of the air coming from the fan. It should feel hot. If it is blowing cold air, the coolant is not circulating through the radiator like it should. This could be caused by lots of things including an improper/defective thermostat, corroded water pump impeller, or a blown head gasket.

Bought reliance 602 50 gallon electric hot water heater 4 years ago and it stoped heating bought new upper and lower elements and new upper and lower thermostat and still no hot water power goes to all...


did you turn the breaker on ? before filling the tank ?the water tank must be completly full before turning on. the new elements will blow if not submerged in water ..if you have 240 volts at the element and its not heating one is out .only one element can be on at a time so you really need an amp prob to test element .try an ohm meter an check resistance ,sounds like one element is out .hope this helps good luck /P/Swhen filling tank. open a hot water valve, on tub or faucet to remove air while filling the tank. you will hear the air coming out of faucet. when water comes out its filled..

Ideal Mexico Super 2 CF100 boiler. The water pressure has dropped after we bled the radiators, so it is not heating the radiators upstairs. We cannot see where the water comes in or how to adjust the water...


Most boiler systems have some sort of expansion tank, a pressure relief valve, auto air bleeder vent device and auto fill connection (with a pressure reducer). I would have to hav a schematic of your system to give you specific instructions. The expansion tank will have an air side and a water side, I guess yours does not have a level gauge.

You could connect a water supply low near the expansion tank or pump inlet...throttle open the bleeder at the top level and fill until you get a solid stream of water out of the system. If your water supply is less than 40 psi, you should have no issues with over pressurizing the system.

98 VW Beetle. Changed out the thermostat for an overheating problem. Tried to bleed cooling system by burping it by squeezing all the air out of the lower radiator hose, but still reaches operating temp...


I have a 1985 Jetta diesel. What I did since the car has no way of bleeding the air out of the system via bleeder screw I parked the car on a slight incline leaving the tank for the fluid at a higher level. I ran the car until the thermostat opened (The thermostat is on the bottom of my engine) I kept topping off the antifreeze. I also kept a jug of anti freeze and water in my car for the next few day. Whenever I got done driving the car and the car cooled off I would check it to see if I needed to top it off. I finally got the air out of it. You could call the vw dealer to see if there is a bleeder on the engine, if so open the bleeder and fill until antifreeze/water comes out, then close the bleeder and top it off to the full level. Just to be safe check the level after you drive the car. Air can still get trapped.

HOW DO YOU PURGE OR RELEASE AIR ONCE YOU REPLACE RADIATOR, WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT?


the thermostat (on bmw replacement parts) have an arrow that has to be installed facing upward.if this was done correctly,to bleed the system usually there is a bleeder screw on or near the expansion tank(where you fill the coolant) and possibly on the thermostat housing. i would recommend opening both bleeders and keep filling the system with coolant closing the lower bleeder first and then allow the rest of the air purge from the other bleeder screw.make sure the coolant stays full and be patient you can't wait TOO long.

How do you vent thermostat on 325E (1985)? I replaced my upper radiator hose and I have a feeling thermostat will not open. Thanks for input on this matter.


There should be 2 bleeder screws in the system, one on the expansion tank, and one on a thermostat housing. Open both screws all the way. Turn the key to the On postion (but dont start the car). Then turn the heater to max heat, but have the fan set at the lowest setting. Fill the expansion tank til coolant comes out of both bleeder screws with no bubbles. After that close the screws (be very careful not to over tighten them!!). Then completly fill the expansion tank. (dont mind the full mark, if theres air in the system, it will drop the level in the expansion tank) And thats it. Drive the car around then check the level.
