HOW DO I TURN ON THE AUTO MUTE ON A COBRA ESD 8285

When changing the Settings on your detector, please keep in mind: Each time the unit is turned On the factory settings of Highway and Auto Mute-On will be set. They can be changed while the unit is in use as described in the following sections.
Assistance Muting An Alert
Your detector allows you to quickly turn Off an audio Alert by momentarily pressing the Mute button. If you press the Mute button a second time during the Alert, the audio Alert will be turned back On.
Auto Mute Mode Auto Mute will automatically reduce the audio volume of all alerts after four (4) seconds for as long as the signal is detected. The factory setting for Auto Mute is On.
Highway/City Mode Setting your detector to City mode delays all X band audio alerts at lower signal strength levels. (A single beep will sound when the signal is first Notice detected.) This will reduce false alerts while you are driving in, or near, urban areas where there are many sources for conflicting X band signals such as microwave towers and automatic door openers. To change settings, follow the procedure listed below, which indicates what you will see and hear as you complete each step. The factory setting is Highway mode.
Highway Mode City Mode
Mute Button Press and release
To Turn Auto Mute Off X Ka L S
City Button Press and release
Press and release the Mute button while no alert is occurring.

I changed tv's and everything works except the volume buttton on Dish remote. It won't turn down or up or Mute.

I came across your post, autumlite; that's interesting! I have a few steps for you to follow to get that taken care of so you can start enjoying the convenience:

Address To Other Equipment Using Power Scan
  • Remote: All Remotes (except Basic)
    1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate, then release.
    2. Press and release the Power button. AUX Mode: Before pressing and releasing the Power button
      • Press 0 for a TV
      • Press 1 for a VCR/DVD
      • Press 2 for any other device
      Then Press STAR (*)
    3. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. Note: If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
    4. Press the POUND (#) button. Note: If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
Hope that helps and let me know if you need any further assistance!

Have a BA TVee 25 Soundbar. Only able to program Volume Up on my remote. Cannot program Volume Down or Mute. Nothing happens except to turn the Soundbar off and on. Don't tell me to follow...

I had this same problem and it was due to their instructions which do not adequately explain the setup procedure.

On my own, I was successful in programming volume up but that was all. I assumed that for volume down I would hold the power button and the VOLUME DOWN button and wait for the flashing light just as I had for volume up. Problem is, you never get a flashing light.

Today, I spoke with a rep from Boston Acoustics who patiently explained that step one of the instructions has to be done the same way each time as it is the step that puts the soundbar into programming mode.

It is only at step 2 that things change.

The solution is to hold the power button and the Volume Up button every time in order to get the system into programming mode. Once the light is flashing, in order to program Volume Down, you then hold the Volume Down button until the light goes solid. Once the light goes solid, then press the volume down button on your remote 4 times slowly. Works like a charm.

Works the same way to program the mute button. Follow step one to get the unit in programming mode. Once the light is flashing, hold down only the mute button until the light goes solid. When the light goes solid, press the mute button slowly 4 times.

OBTW, this was programmed with a Logitech Harmony 650 remote unit.

The alert is to loud, how can I turn down the volume for the alert?

Press the WEATHER/SNOOZE button to turn on the weather radio. Then press the "UP" or
"DOWN" volume button to select desired listening level. (Note: Turning the volume all the way
down [where no bars show] puts the radio into silent mode.)

Hope that helps resolve the issue.

I need to know how to turn off the top two perascopes on a xtr 255

See the steps below from the XTR-255 owner's manual:

OPTION SELECT MODE

Option Select Mode (XTR-255/260/330)

Press the Menu button to enter Option Select

Mode. Each press of the Menu button changes

to the next selectable feature.

The Dark (D) button and the Quiet (Q) button

turns the feature ON/OFF or Blinking. The decimal

point illumination indicates whether a feature

is on or off. A button must be pressed within

20 seconds or Option Select Mode will automatically

be exited.

The fisrt option is VG-2, the second option is the Periscops (which you want to turn off) and hte third is the blue LEDs in the display.

Passport 8500 will no longer switch to LOUD mode

Try doing a factory reset as described in the user manual since it is possible that a power fluctuation has somewhat corrupted the internally saved user settings.

The sharper image jumbo touch panel remote control, can program every appliance (tv, dvd, etc.) except my directv hd receiver. no codes listed in booklet for the hd receiver, tried the codes for regular...

The instructions that came with my remote were COMPLETELY incorrect. I made note in pen in my jumbo remote manual. After hours of searching the web and piecing together various blogs, I wrote these easy-to-use instructions:
  1. Place the jumbo remote and your old remote on a flat surface, head to head, with a 1" to 2" space in between (the remotes should be aiming at eachother).
  2. Press and HOLD the device button on the jumbo remote (eg. TV) until the jumbo remote's small indicator light turns solid red.
  3. Press the LEARN button once on the jumbo remote. The light will blink rapidly.
  4. On the jumbo remote, press the button that you want to perform the learned action (eg. If you want the jumbo remote to turn your TV on and off, press the POWER button on the jumbo remote).
  5. Press the same button on your old remote (eg. POWER button on my old tv remote control). When the jumbo remote's light changes from rapid flashing to slower flashing, press ENTER on the jumbo remote.
  6. You're done! Try the jumbo remote out (eg. Aim the jumbo remote at your TV, press the jumbo remote's TV button, then press the jumbo remote's POWER button). Your television should turn on or off with your jumbo remote.
You can program any jumbo remote button this way (eg. MENU, EXIT, MUTE). Just make sure you press the same button on each remote in steps 4 and 5 (eg. MENU on jumbo remote, MENU or LIST on old remote).

Half of controls work

Flashman,

It sounds like the remote might be in TV mode and not CBL mode. When you press the List or Guide buttons, the CBL light on the remote should light up. If it doesn't, press the CBL button (located right under the master Power button) once, then try pressing List or Guide again.

Remote volume

Hello, follow this link to download the manual and the codes for your remotes:
http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC4330
just right click and save as on the download links.

if this does not work you can try the search method,
you do this by either holding down the device button eg: TV or if you have one the "magic" button for three seconds, a light should then flash twice to say you have done this correctly.
then press the keys 991 then the power button.
you must now press the channel up key (ch+) possibly upto 150 times while the remote cycles through every code.
Once your tv or device switches off stop pressing the ch+ key and press the power button to make sure it switches back on,
(if you press ch+ too many times you can go back by pressing ch-)
When complete press the magic or device key again to save the settings (light should flash twice to confirm)

You may want to set up the "push through / punch through" this allows you to change the tv volume while still in the satellite mode, this should be in the manual.

Many thanks
Mark
