1 Answer

Our two-year old filter is not cleaning the water. I have run cleaner throught the system. I have now done two rounds of chemicals to help clotting in the filter. It has been two weeks and I still do not have clear water. I have spent hundreds on chlorine, etc. Thoughts?

There can be a couple of different reasons for this issue to happen. The first thing to know is if you have had an algae issue. If you have had an algae issue, all of the chemicals will not kill the algae inside the filter itself. You will need to comletely empty the filter of sand, wet/dry vac works best, take the internal parts out of the filter and soak them in bleach water, then replace the drain plug and put bleach water in the tank. Scrub the bottom and sides of the tank, a long handled brush works well, and then drain that water out. Rinse out the tank with a hose, reassemble the parts in the tank- MAKE sure that the laterals are in tightly. IF you have laterals with "slots" on one side and solid plastic on the other, the slots MUST GO DOWNWARD, or you will be pouring sand right into the pool.

IF you have not had an algae issue, you may have "packed" sand in the filter. You will need to open the filter up and mix that sand around, being areful not to break a lateral on the bottom.

If there is sand returning to the pool, you may have a broken lateral that needs to be replaced. For an Owner's Manual on the Sand Dollar, use the following link:

Hope this helps!

If you have the spider fuel system, it is noted for problems. I have seen bulletin about poppets sticking causing a problem with cold starts. After you get it started, if may do fine the rest of the day. The fix was cleaning the poppet valves. The cleaning procedure was a shop procedure, they use the cleaning mixture under pressure.
I doubt if using fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank will help. Just my opinion.

Water comeing out cloudy and makeing suds in pool

There could be a few things causing these problems. How old is the sand in the filter? Filter sand looses its filtering ability after 3-5 years and needs to be replaced. If the sand needs to be replaced, make sure you get actual pool filter sand. A lot of big box and home improvement stores sell play sand as filter sand. That will cause your pool to stay cloudy and never clear up. If the sand is less that 3-5 years old, you may need to clean it with a liquid filter cleaner that is poured through the skimmer. This works quite well!

Another issue causing the cloudiness and bubbles could be the type of chemicals you are using. I know that shock from big box and home improvement stores cause the water to be cloudy. Algaecides from these stores also cause foaming.

Cooks coffee maker ...lits up but does not go thru the coffee making cycle...about a year old...never has been cleaned...this coffee maker does not need a paper do i clean it?? i have no inst....

If it does run some water throught you can try to de-calcify the coffee maker by running a cup of CLR (brand name) through the cycle a couple of times. This will clear most of the water mineral deposits that often clog the coffee making system. After the CLR treatment, run clean water through the system at least twice to clear any remaining CLR. Hopefully this will allow you to enjoy coffee again.
You should clean the coffee maker at least every 30-45 brewing cycles depending upon the hardness of your local water. Regular cleaning by running a cup of white vinegar should work with the more aggressive CLR treatment if you have very hard water.
Hope this clear the problem. Thanks.

Where is the clean button on the coffee maker?

There is no clean button.
To clean the scale buildup in the water system, you need to run a couple of cups of clear vinegar throught the system, run 24 cups of water (2 brew cycles) through the system to flush.
If the buildup is severe, you can substitue a calcium cleaner like CLR (Calcium-Lime-Rust) cleaner in place of the vinegar for a more aggressive cleaning.
Depending upon the hardness of your water, you need to do the cleaning every 30-45 pots of coffee.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Sitting for 4 years now cant get to start

was the fuel treated before storage? if no you will need to flush out all the old fuel from the system, have the injectors cleaned and replace the fuel filter, a good cleaner is called BEERYMANS CHEMTOOL, drain all the fuel out of the lines and the fuel tank, then fill with clean fuel and add one can of above chemical, it may do the trick and clean up the injectors, if it starts and runs rough a professional injector cleaning may be required.

Depending where you live and how high your minerals run in the water. If it is old enough to change the liner it is probally old enough to get new socks for the fingers.

You probably still have calcium buildup coming out. Don.t use the cleaners. They aren't good for you. Put a mixture of half water and half white vinegar into the machine. Run it through. Let everything cool down and repeat it. You can use the same liquid. Run one or two cycles of plain water to remove any traces of vinegar. The vinegar works at almost any temperature, while the chemical cleaners must be very hot to work. The entire water system doesn't get hot enough for the chemical cleaners. They are made to work best in percolators.

The brown-green gunk sounds like algae. You stated that you have cleaned the filter. Have you taken the cartridge completely out? If not, I would suggest that you do so. Scrub the inside of the filter tank with a 4:1 bleach water mixture, only 1 part bleach. Then soak the cartridge in an acid bath, like Muriatic Acid. This will kill any algae that is in the filter itself.

You may need to vaccuum your pool to waste, get rid of some of the water and refill it. This may help get the chemicals in order.

Another idea would be to run the system continuously for a couple of days. Vaccuum to waste, not to return lines, and clean the filter when it reaches 8 to 10 PSI above start-up. You may not be running the pump long enough to properly filter water. Keep trying to get chemicals in order.
