Usually pressing the power button once will wake a computer from sleep. Often all that is needed is a mouse movement or hitting the enter key. If your are in Hibernation mode as opposed to sleep mode
The key stroke(s) needed will be in the Power Settings section of control panel.

Unless you have set one up for this function, why would Microsoft AND the manufacturer waste an F key on something that already has a keyboard button?

Then your computer is broken. As to being condescening, if you stated the power button was broken to begin with I wouldn't have bothered answering at all.

Windows sleep mode problems

Sleep mode on a Windows 7 PC saves power without you having to turn your computer off and without losing any work. This option cuts the power to your monitor, powers down the hard drive and pauses all functions until you awaken the computer from hibernation. Whether you have a laptop, desktop or workstation, putting your computer into sleep mode will lower your electric bill and save money! Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the lower right corner of the Start menu, next to the "Shut Down" button, is a button labeled with a small, right-pointing arrow. Mouse over the arrow. The Shut Down menu appears. Point at "Sleep" and click on this option. Your Windows 7 computer goes into sleep mode. Wake your computer from sleep mode by jiggling the mouse. There may be a delay of a few seconds before your hardware powers on. All of your open programs are still open and your work is intact, just as you left it before the computer entered sleep mode. Configure your Windows 7 PC to go into sleep mode automatically when it is not used for a certain amount of time. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click "System and Security." Click "Power Options." A menu opens. Click on "Choose when the computer sleeps" and select the number of minutes of inactivity. You can also set a separate time interval to put your monitor into sleep mode. If you set both to 10 minutes, then your PC and monitor will automatically go into sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity

LCD monitor turn to sleep mode

Does it turn off or go to sleep? If it turns off , there may be a setting that needs to be reset or reprogrammed. If it goes to sleep because of inactivity, just move mouse to awaken it

The blue light around the power button is doing a slow blink, the pc is up and there is no picture on the monitor.

The computer is "sleeping", in power-saving mode.
Touch any key, or wiggle the mouse, to awaken it.

Or, touch the on/off button, to awaken it.

I am running a model 1045 on VISTA. The sleep key puts my computer to sleep but what key wakes it up?

Hi there,

Normally when you put your computer to sleep with your keyboard you only have to press a key on the keyboard to wake the computer again.
I normally use my spacebar to wake my pc but any key should work fine.

Kind regards!!!

Sleep mode was originally implemented simply as a screen saver. In order to resolve the above issue you need to press CTL, ALT, DEL keys. As it awakens the computer and returns back to the Desktop screen and normal operation without rebooting your pc.

chances are its a driver problem, windows vista is not very stable, even with the 2 service packs now available. if u can, go to microsofts website and try to find drivers for your model of mouse and keyobard and get the latest drivers. otherwise, disable the sleep function or format the computer with windows 7 when its released, or windows xp.
