Your simplicity has a lifetime belt. It has a sensor to shut the direct air motor off if something restricts the brushroll from from turning. You may save money in the long run by taking it to a simplicity or Riccar vacuum dealer.

Synergy model x9. How can I replace belt?

That's an excellent machine you have, very well made. In short, you will need to remove the hood, or the plastic that covers the top of the brushroll. There are screws that need to be removed, they should be located around the back wheels. Try taking a look, if you still need help please let me know and I will pull one from the shop and take a look.

How do i install a vacuum belt?

It should loop around the roller, Rachelle, then twist one-quarter turn to hook over the motor shaft (the steel one that points straight down). Now, it CAN be hooked over the motor shaft in either of two directions, depending upon which direction you twist it - one way will make the roller run backwards and probably pop the belt back off the shaft. The other way is the correct way - if the roller rotates the correct direction when you bump the power switch, then it's on correctly.

HOW TO CANGE BELT ON SIMPLICITY 9.8 VACUUM

This is pretty easy. Turn vac upside down, remove brush cover, brush with belt on it pops out on each side. You must get the exact replacement belt so take your model number and any other numbers to vacuum repair shop. The belt around brush then around motor spindle, replace brush and cover.

Burnt rubber smell when vacuuming

This could be a few things:

A. If your model has a floor selector switch (Bare floor/tools - Carpet) your clutch could be worn. (there is a rubber clutch pad between your cam and roller shell) - Fix would be to replace the clutch pad and belt.

B. If you don't have one of the above models, your belt could be stretched. The belt slipping could cause a rubber burning smell. Fix - Change belt.

C. Have you got any new carpet you are vacuuming or have you moved? Some of the newer style frieze carpets can cause burning rubber smell. The fibers of the carpet are longer and cause the brush to slow down causing the belt to burn. (Imagine brushing long hair with a thick brush, the hair easily gets tangled in the brush, same effect with this carpet.) Some of the newer rugs can do this as well. Some newer carpets with the thicker felt backing and/or the "pet padding" under the carpet can too. it doesn't allow enough air to flow through causing the cleaner head to seal itself to the carpet causing a burning smell. The fix is Move to another home, replace your carpets or replace your vacuum. The vacuum is the cheaper option but be cautious as most vacuums now do this with these carpets. We have had really good response from customers using the Simplicity Tandem Air models, (Synchrony and Synergy models.)

Hope this helps, if you need to talk further feel free to contact me.

Simplicity F3500-- how do I get the bottom off to change the belt?

To change the belt on the Simplicity F3500, unplug the vacuum and turn it upside down. There are two tabs (one on each side) behind the beater bar that hold the cover on the vacuum. Press these tabs inward and lift the bottom plate away from the unit.

Then remove the brushroll and the worn or broken belt from the pulley on the side of the brush roll and the drive shaft. Loop the new belt over the driveshaft and the brushroll. Replace the brushroll in the housing and turn it by hand. Make sure that the belt is seated on the driveshaft and pulley with no twists. Also check that all of the rotating parts will move.

Then put the bottom cover back on by aligning the back hinges and then pressing the plate down until both sides click.

For pictures of the cover removal process, look at page 15 in the manual. The direct link is http://www.simplicityvac.com/about-my-simplicity/manuals/FreedomManual_Update0803.pdf . Most Simplicity vacuum manuals are available at their support site: http://www.simplicityvac.com/about-my-simplicity/manuals/ .

I hope this helps.

How to replace the belt.

Instructions are in the manual, free online here:

http://simplicityvac.com/about-my-simplicity/manuals/7000.pdf

Short version: slide the two retaining clips to the center and remove the bottom plate. There's a C-shaped retaining clip at the right end of the roller tray. Remove the clip and lift the roller out. Thread the old belt from around the motor drive shaft, thread the new one in, put it around the roller and replace the roller - belt will stretch enough to let you do this. Put the C-clip back in, replace the bottom plate and go.
