SOURCE: MTD PRO RIDING MOWER/LAWN TRACTOR 18 HP ENGINE HYDROSTATIC DRIVE

In the back of the mower...probably under the seat, there should be a lever to release the transmission, or it is on the back plate. As far as the noise when trying to move drive the mower, the brake in the back, next to the transmission is jammed, use a 1/2 inch wrench to loosen it maybe 1/4 turn and this should unlock the brakes

SOURCE: wont move forward or reverse-- transmission??

Does it have gears or a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission?

If it's a gear model, sounds like a loose drive belt.

If it's hydrostatic, it could be a belt problem or a problem inside the transmission. If it's a tranmission problem, this is not good. Many of the transmissions on riding lawn mowers are not serviceable - they are just replaced.

Why won't my riding lawnmower shift into reverse?

Some mowers will not allow you to shift into reverse with the blades engaged for safety reasons. Try disengaging the blades then shift into reverse.

Forward reverse

Sounds like your linkage came undone beneath your machine. Look under the carriage and move the lever back and forth, if you do not see anything attached to it, you linkage is close by just hang/laying there.

Lawn mower will not shift forward or in reverse

There is a few problems that would cause this. Does the shiftier move when trying to put it in to gear? If it does then there is something wrong with the clutch collar or the shift fork 26e2a13c-665f-4308-b04b-24e348fc5a3e.jpg

My Weedeater riding lawn mower will not move in forward or reverse after it has started

Check your drive belt that it has not slipped off.. also check your drive lever on the right side (speeds, neutral, and reverse). The mower uses this lever to angle the motor against the belt to move it..

It is most likely the belt or the angle misaligned if the engine is turning...

Troy built lawn mower (riding) won't go full

I did not know riding mower had a gas pedal. I know if you leave the throttle control up all the way the engine will choke out. The pedal you are pushing, I think, is the forward/reverse hydrostatic transmission. You may need a new drive belt. The one you have now may be stretched out.
Good Day.
