Question about John Deere Garden

Open Question

My John Deere D130 won't go into gear.

This happened after I removed/replaced the deck and rear tires. The transmission bypass lever is pushed in. Real wheel axle pins are in place and the drive belt is attached but it is very loose. The drive belt is not moving.

Problem solved. When I put the real wheel on the axle pin fell out. Found, replaced pin and it's good to go.

SOURCE: Need to remove rear wheels to replace tires on MTD riding mower.

most likely rust has taken over
find some liquid wrench or pb blaster and spray the axles liberally and let it penetrate the axles and wheel hubs where the axle goes through.
use a 2x4 and a hammer to tap against the wheel hub to try to move it down the axle then tap in back on to try to free it up as the penetrating oil works in, spin the wheel and tap in different areas of it
the worst case cenario would be to use a torch and heat the axle and hub up and drive it off, but it sounds as though you are moving it some and with some patience they eventually should come off
when you put them back be sure to coat the axle with some grease and do not forget to reinstall the key stock in each wheel, if they have it
the bolt in the center of the axle is all you need to remove and note where the washers came from and where they go back.

hope this helps you some

Why will my Gx325 John Deere not go in forward or reverse

For a more precise answer give the Year/Hours on Meter, and a brief description of the events prior to the problem. When did it last run correctly? What has happened since then?
The first questions that comes to mind...
  1. Can you manually push the mower around?Easily?
  2. We need to know if the brakes are locked up?
  3. We need to know if the transmission bypass lever is in or out?
  4. With the bypass lever out, brakes off, can you roll the machine?
  5. Is the bypass lever still properly connected and unbent?
  6. Looking under the machine (right in the center above the cutting head) are the drive belts intact?
  7. Do the drive belt idler pulleys/bearing look ok?
  8. Is the drive belt engagement plate still connected to the foot pedals?
  9. Does the pulley wheel and fan on the transmission spin when the motor is running? (is power going to the transmission?)
These are your first things to check. You may have to remove the cutting head to fully examine these things.

Check your transmission belt from engine to rear diff. Up high above the deck belt. Its either broken or off its pulleys possible

The drive belt may be broken, or it may have slipped off a pulley.

remove the center caps from the tires then the metal push washers then slide the tire off, don't pull the axle out, there are spaces by the gear boxes on the axle

The rear end on my 1987 750 4wd john deere quit working yesterday, it will still go forward when i step on the lever to engage and lock both back tires but will not move unless i do, front end works fine,...

Check first to see if the drive belt has jumped off a pulley or the belt is stretched or broken. Next if there is a grinding noise it means the transmission has a broken or chewed up gear.
