Sounds like a dry bushing, you don't say the model but the only solution is to get into that area and oil it.

SOURCE: Model 1802. The hand wheel will turn only with hand force.

This might sound too simple but it might need to be thoroughly oiled. I just got one of these machines from a friend -- it had the identical problem: I couldn't turn the handwheel. The motor was working but the machine would not function. I blasted it with WD40 and then thoroughly oiled it with sewing machine oil. Within a half hour it was stitching just fine. If you use WD40 to free it up, be sure to thoroughly oil it with sewing machine oil immediately after because otherwise the lacquer in the WD40 will eventually gum it up again. Hope this helps.

check with a singer service centre but some singers have a belt drive inside the case that works the needle bar mechanism
they are known to break

How put the nedle on a adler 187 sewing machine

On your machine's needle bar, there should be a thumb screw on the right. Insert your needle with the flat side facing left.

I found a discussion that may help you since these machines run very differently than say a singer. The hand wheel for instance is turning away from the user (clockwise) instead of anti-clockwise.

Here's the link. Read the posts with the name djhinca.

Good luck

I have a singer cxl electronic sewing machine and i have a problem with the needle either not moving or stopping when stitching the larger motifs or the zigzag stitch, somtimes the needle jut moves too...

The needle either not moving or stopping is a sign that the machine is jamming. Here's the answer for the question "My machine is jammed" from the FAQs on Singer's web site at http://www.singerco.com/support/faqs.html

A jammed machine is caused by thread being caught in the hook. Remove the upper thread and the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you (counterclockwise) by hand and remove any thread in the bobbin case area. *Always turn the hand wheel towards you. Turning the hand wheel away from you (clockwise) can cause the machines timing to become unaligned and jam your machine. Also, always make sure the presser foot is in the down position before you start sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will jam your machine in the bobbin case.

Your description of the needle hitting the plate or foot is an indication that the machine's timing has become unaligned which can be caused as indicated above by turning the hand wheel away from you - the correct way is to *Always turn the hand wheel towards you.

My Singer Quantum XL 1000 is jammed and does not move. The light is on. Please help

Hello,

Try to turn the hand wheel (on the right side of the machine) backwards ( if you are facing the right side of your machine, turn it clockwise) and try to remove the thread. Once its freed up, change the needle.

Hope that helps,
Chris

Hand wheel is stuck

hi there,
well, stuck up hand wheel, is due to mechanical obstruction inside machine, bushing on shafting need to oil,and on handwheel bushing near clutch there is oil port there. since hand wheel are connected to cam shaft with set of gears and pulley is coupled to motor pulley, and other linkage under bobbins, shuttle race etc, broken gears are most common causes of stuck up handwheel,we can consider also the brush carbon, when worn out and damage the rotor commutator brush.if you can open the cover of motor below side of handwheel, you can see the pulley and motor assembly.also on top of machine there an opening to see the top gear assembly, this should be done by service technician.try to bring to nearest service center if still under warranty claim this for lesser maintenance cost.have a nice day, don't forget to rate me.thank's.

Hand wheel spins without moving the needle

I used to have an old Bernina that had an inner and outer hand wheel. Loosening the inner wheel disconnected the needle bar from the motor so you could wind the bobbin without running the needle up and down. It sounds to me like your machine has the same feature, but resistance on the needle makes the inner wheel loosen up. I don't know whether wrenching on it as tight as you can would be enough, or whether this is a symptom indicating that there is something loose internally in the connection between the inner and outer wheels. Good luck!
