Question about GE Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer will stay on when started

When I turn my dryer on it automatically turns off after I let go of the "start" knob. It sounds as if the motor is not catching but I am not sure. 2 days ago our laundry sink overflowed onto the floor I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. The water drained to our sump pump so nothing was immersed in water. Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Don't do GE products if you have a push to start then I would suspect the centrifugal switch in the motor this is what keeps a closed electrical loop for the motor

SOURCE: Flashing "touchup" and dryer won't start

What I did was unplug it for 1 min., plug it back in. Push the "off" button once, then push the off button again and hold it for 10 seconds. This is supposed to reset the computer. It worked for me.

I HAVE A GE DRYER DBXR453GA2WW. We replaced the belt. The start knob is missing but we can still get it turn on by manual turning the apparatus underneath the knob. However, the dryer will not stay on.

If the dryer starts but will not stay running, the cientrifugal switch in the motor is likely faulty. The motor will probably need to be replaced.

That sounds like the motor is bad.

When turning the knob to start dryer, buzzing sounds but drum doesn't start to turn unless you gently push atart the inside drum

The problem is either a faulty start winding in the motor, or the circuit which energizes the start winding is failing.

A dryer motor has two windings: start & run. The start winding gets it going and a centrifugal switch disconnects the start winding when the motor gets up to speed.

Check the dryer start switch -- then the motor connections and the centrifugal switch inside the motor.

Dryer problems

it sounds like the start windings in the motor may be faulty,is the motor covered in lint, try cleaning it but you may need a new motor.hope this helps.if you hold the start button does it stay running if so its the motor.you can use an amp meter to see what the amps are.should start at about 6-7 amps approx and then drop back to about 2-3. dont know what brand you have.

It won't start

Sounds like the motor start winding or motor relay is bad.. or something caught in you exhast blower. See if you can turn the drum with your hand.. if so you can try, helping it take off while having someone turn the start knob if it starts you know its the motor
