Use compressed air to blow dust out of unit, If it gets hot under no load condition you have a bad diode and resistor on one channel. A complex repair on this amp for an experienced tech. Probably more economical to replace it( for your next pro amp i'd recommend crown or qsc).

Where do I start testing?

I would check if the amplifier somewhere gets hot. Most likely with a certain temp the amplifier will go into protection, Avoiding damage to the vital parts.
When you can find the place where it becomes hot, perhaps you can see if a transistor, or am integrated circuit is not correctly fastened. Before fastening it, perhaps you should apply cooling paste. (Like you use between a microprocessor and the van)

Perhaps it is only running hot, because you want to much power?
To loud.

Adcom amp 5802 running hot

It should run hot to touch at idle, about 120F, because it is MOSFET type amplifier.

I have a 800 watt sony amp pushing 2 memphis pr's should the amp get hot

Yes the amplifier will become very warm or "hot". It is a good idea to place it in an area that will recieve plenty of ventilation and air flow. Some companies sell cooling fans for larger amps.

Check your ground wire. If its loose or bad. It will cause your amp to run hot, and can damage it

I have EP2500 amp i want to use it to push 6 tops, what should i switch it to? one channel must push 3 tops and the other as well pushing 3 tops.

OK, you can use ep2500 amp to power 3 tops each,But the only challenge is that you are about to over load your amplifier. might get hot too fast .

You can use a cooling system to make it not too hot..It also depends on how the event your using it for...Using 3 EP2500 amplifier to drive three 6 top, using two top for each amplifier. Just a suggestion.

Using 2 amplifier, you will need to drive on one channel to drive 2 tops, and 1 top for the other channel.

That will do. But make sure you turn on the volume of the amplifier to the max volume ,so that it will be able to work properly for your tops...

Amp getting hot sound distorted fuses blown wires not touching

make sure that you have installed a wire fuse inbetween your battery and your amplifier that is the most common reason for blown fuses. without that extra fuse your amp is getting a non limited amount of power from the battery.

Temperature issue

Class B and class AB amplifiers will run at high temperatures when they are driven hard or when they are driving too low of an ohm load. If you have the correct ohm load and the amp only runs hot when driving it hard, it's probably OK.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
