How to enable onboard sound

Using a Dell Precision 360 desktop computer as the product problem,

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/precision-360

,and Windows XP as the Operating System; click on the blue Down Arrow to the left of - Audio (1)

Click on the blue -> Analog Devices - Driver
To the right of File Format: click on the blue - Download File

Under the heading - Choose Download Method, make sure there is a Green dot in the small circle, to the left of -
Single - file download

If there isn't a green dot left-click in the small circle, to the left of Single - file download.
Now click on Continue in the blue oval.

A small window will come up on the right -
Opening R56339.EXE
Left-click on Save File

Another small window will come up on the left. Allow the file to fully download, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.
This is a Zip file. You may have to 'unzip' it.

[A Zip file is a compressed file. To 'unzip' it is to 'un-compress' the file. A Zip file is used to send large amounts of information more easily ]

If you have to unzip it go to the far left side. Left-click on Extract all files.
At the bottom of the next 3 small windows click on Next, Next, and Finish.

Or follow the easy instructions if they differ.
(If the zip file opens into many smaller files, DOUBLE-click on one that ends in .exe, or Installer )

After you have installed the audio (Sound) driver, restart your computer, if not asked to do so.

Also look in the System Tray at the bottom of your Windows desktop screen. The Volume icon looks like a little speaker. RIGHT-click on it. Left-click on Open volume control.
Make sure it is UP, and turned ON.

If after all of this there is no sound, turn the computer off normally. Let it sit for 1 minute, then turn it back on.

Still no? Then I suggest the audio chipset is bad on your motherboard. It is Integrated Audio.
Another term for Integrated is OnBoard.
ON the motherBOARD.

If your OnBoard Audio is bad then I suggest a Sound Card. There are economical models out there, that will make your integrated audio sound like a tin can.

Touchpad doesn't work

Whoa! Wait a second here!

It was Windows that lost the driver in the first place. Very doubtful you can rollover, or reinstall the driver. Windows lost the address to the file. (Wind-Bl~ows)

I would suggest you download, AND install the driver. If that doesn't work I will also show you how to disassemble your laptop.

(I'm also assuming here that there is a yellow exclamation mark, next to the touchpad reference in Device Manager)

I take it the reference is to an HP Pavilion dv6-3025dx Notebook PC.
That's what the problem heading states. If it isn't get back here pronto, and state the Product Number.
(Or I'll whine, and snivel, ....and you don't want to go there! lol!)

( The Product Number is on the bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag. P/N = Product Number )

Problem is the Operating System isn't stated.
OS or O/S.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=4221625&

In the drop down list I'm going to choose Windows 7, 32-bit, for an example,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4221625#N293

The drivers are listed on down the page.
Left-click on the + sign to the left of -
Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices (3)

Synaptics Touchpad Driver
Click on the blue - More info, underneath this file name.

On the next page look under the bold black heading -
Details and specifications
Click on the blue - sp50594.exe

A small window will come up on the right -
Opening sp50594.exe
Click on Save File.

Going with you are using your HP computer, and it has Windows 7 (32-bit) on it.

After you click on Save File another small window will come up. This time on the left. In the wording at the top of the window, tells you where the file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.

Desktop: The driver file will be on your desktop screen.

Documents: Click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.
(I know. Long way around, but users need to see the whole picture, sometimes)

Downloads: Click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.
Now click on Downloads.

When you see the file name (sp50594.exe), DOUBLE-click on it.
In the next three small windows click on Next, Next, and Finish.
If you are not asked to restart your laptop, do so.

(Windows logo button, Turn Off Computer, Restart)

No joy?
Then the Touchpad is bad, or a bad connection.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=4221625&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Again, main support page. This time left-click on the blue - Manuals - subheading.
On this page click on the blue file name -
HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

Ignore if you are aware;
The above is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the above file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

At the top of the PDF file is the PDF file page number box. To the right of the Down Arrow.
IF you know the page you want you can use the Down Arrow, to go page by page to it, OR;

1) Put your mouse cursor in the PDF page number box.
Left-click once. (Everything in the page number box is highlighted in blue)

2) Type the page number
3) Press the Enter key

The Zoom In icon ( + ) increases the page view size.
The Zoom Out icon ( - ) decreases the page view size.

You can also use the Bookmarks menu to the left.

Go to Page 65.
[Bookmarks menu >
Click on the + sign to the left of - Removal and replacement procedures
Click on the + sign to the left of - Component replacement procedures
Click right on - Top cover ]

Now,.....things you should have, and things you need to do F-I-R-S-T

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) You should buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap. Cost averages from $3 to $6. Keeps you from Static shocking the delicate hardware components, inside your laptop.

Here is an example,

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245

Once the Top Cover is removed, there are sensitive items that can be Static shocked.

{Hmmmm, I put everything back,....wonder why the laptop doesn't work? }

3) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove. Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws!
Advise DO NOT mix them up.

You have problems, or ANY questions regarding this, post back in a Comment.

Wireless connection keeps turning on and off every 10 secs. Contacted internet provider they say it could be the driver?

We'll start with the Driver, and see.

A Driver is a small piece of software written, to allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.
Windows XP is one example of an O/S, and the wireless adapter, is an example of a device.

Acer Support > Aspire 6530-5143 Notebook PC > Driver Download page,

http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=566

Scroll the page down to the heading - Wireless LAN
You will see there are several drivers listed.

There are several things that need to be matched up, in order to download the correct driver.

1) The Operating System.
What O/S is installed on the laptop?
Windows XP, or Windows Vista?

2) What wireless module is installed in the laptop?
What manufacturer is it?
Atheros, Broadcom, or Ralink?

1a) Operating System.
This one is easy. You know which O/S is on your computer.
However you may need to find out which version it is.
32-bit (x86) ot 64-bit.

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.
Windows Vista x86 is the 32-bit version.
Windows Vista x64 is the 64-bit version.

2a) To find out the wireless module (Adapter) manufacturer perform this;

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

Now left-click on the Hardware tab. Then left-click on Device Manager.
After Device Manager has fully loaded, left-click on the + sign next to - Network adapters.
Do you see Atheros, or Broadcom, or Ralink, listed?

Write down the wireless adapter manufacturer name.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties, then follow the above as listed out for WinXP.

If it is an Atheros wireless adapter, see if it has T77H053, or T60H976 listed next to it.
There is a specific driver listed for these two models.

An example;
If you know that the wireless adapter is Not an Atheros, and Not one of the two models, T77H053, or T60H976, there are 7 drivers listed.
(These 7 drivers are listed in-between the T77H053, and T60H976 models)

The first two drivers listed are for Atheros. (Under the T77H053 heading)
The first Atheros driver is for Windows XP.
The second Atheros driver is for Windows Vista.

For an example, if you have Windows XP as an O/S, and an Atheros wireless adapter, you would use the first Atheros driver listed.

Not an Atheros wireless adapter?
Let's go on to Broadcom, then.

The first Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 32-bit version.
The second Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.
The third Broadcom driver listed is for Windows XP. (32-bit version)

In Vista left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
You are looking at the System Properties window.
At the top portion will tell you what operating system you are using, and what version.
32-bit (x86) or 64-bit.

The first Ralink wireless driver listed is for Windows XP.
The second Ralink driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.

Confusing? Isn't meant to be.
If you find out what Operating System you are using, and what wireless adapter, using what I have posted above, simply state this information in a Comment, and I will guide you to the correct driver.

Once you left-click on the correct driver file you need, a small window will come up on the right side.
It starts with, "Opening........" in the heading at the top of the small window.

Left-click on OK at the bottom of the small window.
A small window will come up on the left side.
In the wording of the heading at the top of this small window, tells you where the file will download to.

A) For Windows XP:
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording of the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents, then DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

B) Windows Vista:
It may have Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, in the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen.

Documents: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.

Downloads: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

C) When you see the file name, DOUBLE-click right on it. (Opens the file)
The Installation Wizard will come up.
Follow the easy instructions.

(Essentially just click on Next, next, and Finish at the bottom of the windows. DO NOT alter any settings, as Windows knows THE correct place to put the wireless driver file)

I know it's a lot to take in, but instead of replying back, and forth to obtain the information needed, (What O/S, what wireless adapter), I posted all of it for you to see.

As stated, if you post the O/S (Operating System), and what wireless adapter it is, and I'll guide you.

[Windows is a 'funny' animal. Sometimes drivers are lost.
It isn't actually that the driver isn't there anymore, it is the address to the driver that is lost ]

joecoolvette

I have this same problem on my pavillion dv6. sent it to warranty repairs twice they have replaced the keyboard, touch pad and mother board, worked about a week after last repair which took two weeks. I am sending it back on feb 10 for more replace parts and see if it works. I searched the web and I have not found any solution and hp won't even acknowledge the problem althoughit it is not limited to the hp product. Reconfigureing and downloading drivers etc. has done nothing but waste time. I am using usb mouse with touch pad disabled for now even that acts strange with the touch pad enabled.

Hi just got a lexmark X2550 INTALLED IT AFTER TURNING OFF ANTIVIRUS LIKE IT SAYS PTINTED OFF FIRST PAGE THEN PUT IN SCANNER LIKE IT ASKED SCANNED IT BUT WILL NOT PRINT IT OFF I HAVE REINSTALLED BUT STILL...

Hi,

The Epson's USB cable would also work with the Lexmark. The 1st time print and scan, to my knowledge, will not really print but align the print heads. You can try to print a Windows test print by going to Start, Printers & Faxes, right click on Lexmark X2250, left click on Properties, and left click on the Print Test Page button.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

MX Revolution left click problem

Try a bit of compressed air - perhaps dirt is jammed under the button.

If its under warranty you might want to return it to where you bought it.
