SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Mod. #795 75544401

The unit was built bt LG. It is a computer controled unit and the timer is built into the main control board on back of the unit. However, the most likely cause of the broblem is the defrost terminator located on the evap on the upper right hand corner. Also, try unpugging the unit it will reset the computer board. You will also have to defrost the unit.

Defrost timer

The defrost timer is part of the electronic control baord located on the back of the refrigerator. If the freezer is not defrosting check the thermistor on the evaporator(freezer) coils. It can cause the control board to thing it doesn'y need defrosting. a common problem

Why do I need to defrost every week?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. I had to do a reverse lookup of your model number and think I am close with this model number: 106.72102100 and can be found using the www.searspartsdirect.com website. Your defrost timer is item 4 of this link:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-10672102100/0582/0166000/P0109056/00002?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=
detailed view:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/482493/0046/106/Model-10672102100/0582/0166000?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=10672102100&subCompDesc=Liner&brandDesc=KENMORE&modelDesc=TOP-MOUNT-REFRIGERATOR&blt=11

It should automatically cycle your refrigerator into the defrost mode as often as 3 times a day. When the defrost timer or the defrost element (item 4 this link: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-10672102100/0582/0166000/P0109056/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=
fails you will have to do a manual defrost. In addition a failed bi-metal thermostat (item 2 same link) can also cause the unit not to cycle out of the defrost cycle once it begins.

You can manually rotate the defrost timer using the 2 tabs if you kneel down and look into the overhead of the fresh food compartment. You will see a circular hole with the inclined tabs on it. Rotating this SLOWLY until the compressor shuts off or you hear a noticable click will start the defrost cycle. (Due to the inclined tabs you can only rotate it ONE direction.) The defrost cycle should self terminate after abiut 45 minutes. If it does not self terminate that indicates a problem with one of the 3 main defrost components. Timer, element or bi-metal thermostat.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

My kenmore 10658026800 does not cool... where is the defrost timer?

I found the parts page but Kenmore does not have the parts listed. You refrigerator was made by Whirlpool and Sears changed the model number. Looking a the sears photos your model does not have a defrost timer but does have an Adaptive Defrost Control located inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel where you set temperatures. Defrost failures and compressors stopping as you said in your post are common for the ADC I will continue to try to cross it over to the Whirlpool Model but most likely that is the problem. When an ADC fails strange things begin to happen. Once you start to look for the ADC unplug and remove the top shelf to help lower the control panel. I will return soon to leave you more contact information and what the part looks like. OK your model came with three different styles of defrost controls located in same area. Timer and two different ADC boards. I will need you to look and read the numbers off of what you find. If a timer we can test, defrost boards usually have burn marks on front or back when damaged. Let me know what you find and we go to next step. Is ice building in freezer rear wall or is just lights on? Sea Breeze

Refrigerator Freezer has excessive frosting and the Refrigerator food/vegetable area does not cool. Is this a Defrost heater or Defrost timer problem?

very possible. That is what should be checked first. Sometimes They can get overloaded with ice and not clear it all in one defrost. Try un-plugging the unit for a couple of hours and let the ice completely clear. If it does it again in a short amount of time then the heater or the timer is most likely the cause. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Need a service/repair manual for a Kenmore refrigerator.

Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.
Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Frost is forming in the freezer Hotpoint ctx21ga

I am looking up your model now, it is for sure in the defrost circuit that is causing this. Yes, from what I can find your model has a defrost timer. But have not located where it is, most times 2 places, behind kick plate near floor or inside fresh food cabinet inside the panel where the temperature control is located. When you locate it slowly turn clockwise until refrigerator stops running. At this point it should be in defrost. If timer does not work it will need replaced. I'm still doing some searches on your model so please understand this is not a solid yes, that this is your problem, but we will find it. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze
