If you shine a bright light at the screen and you can see something, the back light/inverter may have failed. If nothing at all, check on an external screen.

Sounds like you broke your backlight and need a new LCD screen. A new one can be found here for $70.

My sony Vaio lap top monitor just went dark...I could see everything if I used a flashlight...this lasted about 20 minutes...I did a recovery ...nothing happened..just now it lit back up . I dont...

When then laptop boots up but the screen is dark then most likely it is a back-light problem. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to determine the fault and possible fix :-

Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Dark Screen

Do you get the same result if its plugged in or running off battery? Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue
