Check the boot order in your BIOS to make sure you trying to boot from the new Hard Drive. And that your OS has been successfully installed.

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

This error is a result of your computer not finding the operating system. This is usually the case when the hard drive has failed. You will need to take the computer to a technician to replace the hard drive and have windows reinstalled.

If the sound you are referring to is a clicking sound, then it is a hard drive failure.
Your computer is trying to boot up the operating system from the hard drive, but when it fails to access the hard drive, it tries to boot up from other devices configured on the BIOS. Apparently, your next choice for booting the operating system is set to the LAN card. Hence, you get the message "PXE-E61 Media test failure", which means that the computer tried to boot up the operating system over the network but it found out that your network cable is not connected to your computer's network interface card.

A "media test failure, check cable" means your hard disk failed. The bios can not locate the boot sector of the hard disk to begin loading the operating system.
"Operating system not found" means windows can't load because the Bios can not find the operating system (because the hard disk failed).

This is pretty much an unrecoverable error in terms of fast fixes. You can take the hard disk to a data recovery service if you need to retrieve important data or files.

PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F

There are two things that could be a problem. The BIOS settings are corrupted, or the hard drive system has a problem. In order to fix the BIOS problem, at boot up you'd hit F2 (or whatever key is required to enter setup). Get some paper and pencil and go through the BIOS pages and mark down anything that is not a default setting. Find the location to reset the BIOS to default settings and perform this action. This will overwrite your BIOS settings and remove any corrupted data. Now, when you reboot, go back into the setup and set all of the settings to the choices you marked down before.

If this does not fix your problem, your hard drive control system has a problem. It could be as simple as a ribbon cable being loose or as bad as the controller section on the motherboard has gone out. Another possibility is the hard drive has given up and needs to be replaced.

Pxe-e61: media test failure, operating system not found

First, take out any CDs/DVDs and try to boot again. If that doesn't work, your hard drive may be defective.

There will be a cover on the bottom of your laptop that holds the hard drive (easy access). You can try removing and reinserting the hard drive and then booting the PC afterward.

If that doesn't work, you will likely have to replace the hard drive, but best advice would be to take it to a computer technician for further analysis.

Black screen says PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable, Operating System not found. I hear wierd sounds from the computer.

Sounds like it could be a bad hard drive. With your laptop turned off, take out the hard drive and put it back in and make sure its nice and snug.

Then go ahead and turn on the laptop and see if you can boot back up into windows.

If you can't get into windows and you get the same message then boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS by pressing F2. When you get into the BIOS look and see if your BIOS is recognizing the hard drive, if it's not seeing the hard drive then that means your hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

If your hard drive is showing up then that means you have corrupt system files and you'll need to restore your laptop back to factory defaults with your recovery cd's.

I probably meant to say "reseat" the memory. Just remove the memory module(s) and reinsert them in their slots. This problem can also sometimes be resolved by reseating the hard drive. I had this happen to me just the other night. The laptop slid off of my lap and fell to the floor. Just fell about a foot and a half, and didn't hit all that hard. Kinda partially caught it as it went. But the laptop didn't like it and I had a message of "Operating system not found". Reseating the hard drive had me up and running in about 30 seconds.
