If your recovery partition is corrupted, and you have not already made recovery disks (CD/DVD), you must contact HP support. They may or not be able to help you, and may or may not charge you for them. Else, return your system to factory state using either of these two media. Find the general procedure (somewhere) on the HP website. Your nest best option is to seek advice on the HP Community forum, accessible through the HP website

SOURCE: no recovery discs

If you have any windows xp bootable cd use that to fix the problem by running the command chkdsk /r/f or you can try with this just restart the system in safe mode with command prompt and type the command like c:\windows>chkdsk
And
c:\windows>chkdsk /r/f

SOURCE: i just need a vista

Do you still have your recovery partition? Does the utility still exist to create a new recocery DVD? When you restart the system is there a key combination to repair your system (Backup first)?
The necessary files for the Windows utility should still exist on the HP site if they had been deleted. No recovery partition? Make note of your Windows serial number on the sticker under your machine, use a friends copy of Vista and reinstall or repair. Use your serial to install and reactivate.

HP recovery discs can be used to return a computer's software configuration to its original condition. HP provides a recovery solution on the hard drive, but it is still a good idea to keep recovery discs stored in a safe place in the event of a hard drive failure. Use the sections in this document to obtain a recovery solution that works best for you.

NOTE:HP computers designed for commercial use, such as Workstations or Pro series, use "Operating System" or "HP Restore Plus" DVDs. To order these types of discs, go to the HP Replacement Part Store . Recovering your computer without recovery discs You may not need recovery discs to recover the software on your computer. HP provides a recovery solution on a separate area of the hard drive. If the hard drive is still functional, you can still perform an HP system recovery from the hard drive as long as the recovery information has not been destroyed or corrupted.
To do a software recovery from the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.

How to use System Recovery console (steps)

    Starting a Recovery

Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F10 key repeatedly until a Recovery Screen appears.
You can also start a recovery from recovery discs, or from Windows. For more information refer to Performing a Full System Recovery in Windows XP .

    Recovery is taking too long
If your computer stops responding after using the recovery program, do the following:

NOTE:If the computer appears to have stopped responding after restarting from a recovery, please wait, it may take several hours or longer to complete the initial Windows XP setup process, especially if a recovery was run from a recovery disc set sent by HP. A Standard recovery may also take longer, depending on how many files are stored in user accounts (like in My Documents ).

1 Exit the stalled recovery process by pressing the POWER button on the PC until the power turns off, this takes approximately five seconds.
2 Before recovering, disconnect personal media drives, printers, scanners, cameras, camera-type memory cards, and other devices that did not originally come with the PC.
3 If you are using recovery discs, be aware of the following items:
4 If you created the recovery discs using Recovery CD Creator, be sure to run the recovery from the same drive that you used to create the discs.
5 Clean the discs with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth wetted with distilled water. Wipe from the center of the disc to the outside edge. You may also use disc cleaning kits or disc restoration kits from your local computer store. These kits produce better results than using cloth and water.
6 You may also use available CD/DVD Drive cleaning kits to clean the laser reading lens of the CD or DVD drive.
Try running a full system recovery again from the hard drive by turning the on the computer and pressing the F10 key until a Recovery Screen appears. This performs the recovery from the hard drive.
7 If the recovery stops when recovering from the hard drive, use the section Disc errors occur during the recovery process to eliminate errors on the drive. Try recovering again after the disk errors are removed.

How i can recover my hp pavillion dv4000 without using cd

For computers manufactured and sold in 2006 or later, based on the Microsoft licensing agreement, you can create a personal recovery disc to restore the computer to its original operating system. If you cannot create a set of recovery discs, you might be able to order a set of replacement discs from HP. HP maintains an inventory of replacement recovery discs for several years after the product has been released. However, because of licensing restrictions, HP is only able to provide these recovery discs for a limited time. If the computer is several years past its warranty period, HP might not be able to supply replacement discs for your computer. If this is the case, you can install a new operating system that meets the minimum system requirements of your computer, or, alternatively, upgrade your computer hardware.

This is a fairly new laptop, it should have come with either a recovery disk or a recovery partition on the HDD. You should be able to still purchase the recovery media from HP. Have you contacted them?

Recovery partition (including possibility to recover system, applications and drivers separately); Optional re-allocation of recovery partition; Recovery CD/DVD creation tool; Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ 2008 (60 days live update); Notebook Help & Support

This is a feature of the notebook from the HP support site.

I am unable to reinstall my windows copy

Have you created the Recovery CD's? If so, put the recovery CD in the disc drive and restart your machine. Most notebooks start from CD first and then from hard drive. If not, you could change that in it's BIOS. (Press F10 at the moment you see the HP Invent logo).

When the disc boots it allows you to choose from multiple options. Choose the options that sounds like "Restore factory defaults" or something like it.

The D-partition is only used to create the disc and hold info. There is no software there to run for recovery.

I hope this helps, if you need more help just ask.
I work at a company who is an HP Partner so.

    Greetings,

    DarkNeogen
