I have sylvania t.v. that has only one white and one yellow plug in on the back I can not get any picture or sound from the dvd player.

you dont need to,just plug yellow to yellow and red white to audio

video out on back of the player. The plugs would be red, white & yellow as well. You may have to check you settings on your tv & player as well if it is plug in the right way. The plugs would plug into your tv's video in- red,yellow & white.

First you need a component cable to solve your problem.Since you have not mentioned what device you are connecting to your TV, I''ll assume its a DVD player or a settop box.There is a Red and White audio sockets + Red / Green / Blue component video socket. Just make sure you connect the corresponding two sets of jacks at both end of your TV & DVD player and everything will work.

Try to swap the plugs, yellow in red, red in yellow, also try to swap the yellow, and white plugs.

there are three cable yellow red and white your yellow
cable is the picture cabe and your red and white cabe is the sound cabe plug the yellow cabe in the yellow input and the white and red in the red and white input @ the back ok you recorder now the some go to the tv set it will work 100% now

the white cable and red cable is your sound the yellow cabe is your picture see that you have a yellow input @ the back of you tv and plug in the yellow in it then it will work

If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.

Best to use the a/v cables.
Your player should have output ports for audio and video, on the ports that say output, plug the cable red to red, white ot white, and yellow to yellow.
Now, the cable going the back of the TV. Your choice, input1 or input 2. Just plug red to red, white to white, and yellow to yellow.
Now press the the input button on your remote until the picture and sound appear.

Tvs usualy have a few ways to hook them up. One is a coax cable this is the silver one in the back that you screw in a cable. The second are RCA cables these are the ones that are yellow, red and white. Yellow is always the video and white and red are for audio. If your using the coax cable your tv needs to be on channel 3 or 4 you may have to force the tv to go to that channel by pushing 03 on the remote. If you are using the Rca cables then you need to change the tv to "video 1" or "video 2" this changes the tv from tunner mode to aux input mode. Most DVD players dont have a coax out so you have to use the rca plugs. Some tvs have the rca plugs on the front (video 2) and the back (video 1) or line in. Some tvs have line out also so you need to figure out wich way you have it hooked up. Do a search for the model of your tv and it should show a diagram on how to hook it up.
