when i got the laptop it didn't have an o/s installed, well maybe it did but if i switch it on without the xp disc in it gets to a point where it says ntldr is missing, i really think its the cd drive that is broken but i don't wanna have to go buy a new drive (that's just me being tight & not wanting to have to spend out on it..lol) i have used my xp disc in other hp pc's & it worked fine, i have used linux b4 too but the thing is if it is the cd drive using a ubuntu/linux disc isn't gonna make a difference is it? arghhhhhhh its doing me head in lol

  • neilsey Jun 14, 2009

  • neilsey Jun 14, 2009

Yeah, hp sucks because it takes a special disc, if you want a good free operating system, try linux, its free and kicks A$$, you can order a free ubuntu cd at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

you may not liker linux at first, but give it a while and you will soon love it, and there are many different "flavors" of linux, try it out

It sucks but HP laptops can only be installed or reinstalled with a HP recovery disk. If you try to use anything else you get a black screen or a error message.

If your laptop came with vista and if you have uninstalled it and trying to install vista but could not start the system, then you may try recovering your notebook using F11 recovery

Free recovery disks for hp pavillion zd8000 with windows 7

As far as I know, the original zd8000 operating system is Windows XP. If you have Windows 7 installed, then you need to get Windows 7 disc and its product key. If you need the Windows XP reinstallation media, then you can use HP Windows XP reinstallation disc only (for example: HP Windows XP Professional with SP2 disc).

My Hp Pavilion dv5000 crashed! XP cd displays error message!

If you are facing this issue while installing Windows, Most probably there is an issue with the memory card. If you have two memory modules try to use one of the memory modules in each slot at a time. If you have only one memory stick then try to use it one by one on each slot. If you it does not work then probably you might have to replace the memory stick.

Hope you find this information helpful.

Battery with HP Pavillion DV5000 won't work. Do I need to replace the battery or is there a battery charger I could use to recharge the battery? Dianne

You can order a power cable online or pick one up at your local computer store. They should run between $80-150. The battery itself is very expensive to purchase but is rechargeable.

Driver requirement

There is a program you can find called "system restore" It will completely erase the operating system. Than you can do a fresh install and it will be like a new computer.

If you can find the "system restore" make sure it is burnt on to a disc. Or just find a disc to buy.

The disc will have to be in the rom drive before starting the computer.
