S-video not working

I have a Compaq Presario c769us. The computer does not recognize my tv. I'm going from s-video to a/v in the tv. I've tried different tv's and different cables. I've tried using the intel tv wizard that came with my laptop and that does nothing but say it doesn't recognize the tv. I've tried the fn/f4 button method which is supposed to send instantly to external display's but I don't get so much as a flicker. I've tried starting the computer with the tv attached. I've upgraded all the software and bios, and contacted hp/compaq and other supposed support lines to no avail.

Yes. There are two sets of A/V in. One on the front of the tv and one on the back. Both assigned there own channel on the tv. The back is line1 and the front is line2. When I connect my computer I always tune to the corresponding channel. I've tried using both and neither work, and I've tried different tv sets.

Note that I am going from s-video to composite. I don't know if I made that clear. although I don't think that should matter considering my desktop is run from s-video to composite on my tv in the bedroom with no problems.

Ok. so if I go buy a tv with an s-video connector does it also have to be the same pin number as my computer? a lot of the tvs i've looked at are 4 pin s-video. the one on my laptop is 7 pin. do i have to get a 7pin tv or can i use a cable that converts?

When you connect the S Video from the computer to the S Video on the TV; have you set the TV to display from that S Video input?

Thanks for that clarification; yes that does make a difference because unless the video on your laptop supports it (which most don't) that won't work. It has to go into an s-video input or a device that can convert the signal. As it is now, you're hooking up a cable that would work if your video on your laptop could convert the signal but it can't so you're not getting any signal. If you had a TV that had an S-video input then it would work like a charm.

Actually mor than likely its just a setting upon your computer. I've had this same problem. Drove me nuts... Just mess with the settings on your tv wiz.

Presario c769us screen scrambles

It's the lcd video cable. The wires are damaged so when you move it up and down at some point they touch and at other times they don't.

Replace the cable and you're good to go.

Compaq Presario C769US PC Laptop heats up.

Right under that area of the keyboard there is a heat sink. If you look in the bottom of your laptop, in that area you will see a vent (and another towards the upper area of the bottom of the laptop). These vents are to keep the internal devices cool.

You can buy a laptop cooler online or in the store

Hope that helps!!
