Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

Kenmore/Whirlpool Washer - How to remove console End caps?

I have a Kenmore Elite washer (model 110. 26942503) and it only fills up part way with water. So I am guessing it has something to do with a water level switch or air dome hose as described in someone else's post I saw here http://www.fixya.com/support/t2143949-90_series_kenmore_washing_machine_model.

Anyway, I can't for the life of me figure out how to raise the control panel as described. It sure seems like I have removable end caps, but they sure don't seem to pull/pry off. And I tried the putty knife under the front edge to no avail thinking that I may not have removable caps. Is there a diagram or advice on how to remove the end caps (if they are in fact removable on this model) or to release the control panel. I must not be "getting" something simple, but I am pulling like crazy on these things and they don't budge. Even tried putting a screwdriver in a slot on the back to try and tap them loose. Afraid I will break something. SHould it really be this hard to get them off?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Seems like this could be an inexpensive thing to try and fix on my own and I'd rather not pay out the nose for a repairman if possible.

Thanks!

    Update:

I goofed around with this again tonight and got it figured out (at least as far as getting the control panel open). The hose leading to the water level switch seems fine--got the washer cover pulled forward and there were no kinks or debris. So I ordered a water level switch and will swap it out to see if that's the issue. If not, it's only cost me about $30 to find out. Sounds from everything I've read that the switch is a likely culprit. I'll post the results when the switch gets here.

Just wanted to update this . . . it was indeed a bad water level switch. Received it in the mail and popped it on the other day. Took all of 10 seconds and works like a charm! Was great to find a cheap and easy repair for that here! I was really dreading having to pay for a repairman to come out and charge me out the nose to fix it. Betting it would have cost at least $200 for what ended up being a $20 part. The washer is only 3 years old, so I was ticked that it had something go bad so fast. Hoping that it runs solid for several more years--but at least I know that I can come here to try and troubleshoot a DIY repair job first before I do anything else.

I have a Kenmore top load washer (110-22642100) that will fill, agitate through entire wash cycle, but that's it.

HI THERE, IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR PUMP IS BLOCKED, NOT WORKING OR SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS. START BY CHECKING THE PUMPS IS NOT BLOCKED, LOOSE CHANGE NORMALLY CAUSES THIS AND IS RELATIVELY EASY TO FIX.

Finding the pump on the Kenmore Elite top load washer is a fairly easy project that can be done in about a half hour. The Kenmore Elite is part of the GE line of appliances and shares many of the same interior mechanical parts and systems. The Kenmore Elite is a very streamlined exterior cabinetry design, but the interior can be accessed by removing just a few screws in order for you to locate the water pump.
things you'll need:

  • Screwdriver
    • 1

Unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore Elite top load washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to locate the pump.

    • 2

Remove the end caps on the control console of the dryer by pressing in on the caps with your thumbs and pulling the caps forward to unfasten them.

    • 3

Unfasten the screws on the ends of the control console in the front with a screwdriver and tilt the console back so that it rests on the back hinges.

    • 4

Unplug the top lid switch from the rear of the lid that sits underneath the control console, pulling the switch straight up off the metal prongs by hand.

    • 5

Pry the metal clips that sit on the top lid up with a screwdriver, lifting the clips to unlatch the top and pull the top lid cover off the washer base, setting it aside.

    • 6

Locate the water pump at the base of the washing machine on the top of the motor shaft.

    • 7

    • take the cover off the pump and remove any blockage or debris.

thanks and good luck

iain

Timer/control knob on front panel has come loose from the inside, Any help on opening panel and reattaching unit to the panel

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Next, see the following for how to release the console:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=fcfcd31a8e8aeeccda85d0c7abd587ba

NOTE:

Some Kenmore washers don't have removable end caps with screws underneath. These models usually have a spring clip mounted under where the end caps would be. In that case, use a thin putty knife to slip under the ends of the console to release the clips.

Also see the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washers. It details the two types of timers and how to access them.

I have a Kenmore Elite top washer and was wondering how to lift the top to clean

#
1

Disconnect your Kenmore Oasis washing machine from its power source. Make sure that your washer is unplugged before beginning to disassemble it.
#
2

Remove the screws that hold the control console to the top of your Oasis washer. In some Kenmore Oasis models, the two screws may be covered by plastic end caps. After removing the screws, set them aside until you are ready to replace them.
#
3

Flip the console up, back and out of the way.
4

Locate the cabinet clips on the top of your Kenmore Oasis washer. These clips are located toward the back of the washer top and would be hidden by the console if it were not currently flipped up.
#
5

Slide your screwdriver underneath the metal cabinet clips. Wiggle the screwdriver back and forth to gently pry the cabinet clips free.
#
6

Disconnect the group of colored wires that plug into the top of the washer from the control console. These wires control the lid switch on your Kenmore washing machine. To disconnect, grasp the white plastic clip and pull gently.
#
7

Remove the washing machine cabinet. Tilt the cabinet towards you, and then lift the entire cabinet up and off of its platform.

I have a kenmore elite model 11026942500 top load washing machine. It won't start once it fills with water, and I don't hear the "click" when I shut the lid, (which usually starts the wash cycle).

If you suspect you have a defective timer it can easily be replaced by performing the following steps:

1. Unplug washing machine... and pull out the timer knob. Some knobs have a removeable center cap and hidden screw. Some are simply slip-fit. Remove the knob.

2. Remove console. This can be accomplished in one of two ways depending on which type of console you have.

a. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer.
The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer.
There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.

b. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up.
There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.

3. Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.

4. Disconnect all power plugs and remove the timer's mounting screws.

5. Reinstall reverse of removal.
