Question about Behringer EUROPOWER EP2500 Amplifier

Open Question

Our Behringer EUROPOWER EP2500 overheated terribly last night during a gig. We let it cool down and it would work for a few seconds and then clip back out. Channel one was red , while channel 2 was green. Amp is relatively new and we have never had a problem before this. When i touched the amp it was so hot that it almost burnt my hand. We hadn't changed anything and the amps are spread out so they shouldn't be catching a ton of heat from eachother. Any suggestions? We also took the amp case off and didn't find anything.

SOURCE: Behringer EP2500 Clip light Channel 2 stays on & heatsink HOT!

There are so many components that can fail that troubleshooting this can be an expensive problem.

HINT: Put a 150 Watt light bulb in series with the power going into to limit current for/during troubleshooting.

Go through and compare the voltages on the teo channels. If power amp transistors have failed, likely the driver transistors also are gone.

Testing components in-circuit is very dificult. Resistors are pretty reliable and usually show damage by discoloration.

Furhter use before repairing MAY cause further damage.

SOURCE: my behringer europower EP2500 poweramp has a bad

There is a possible noise build up on your CH2 due to failure or weakness of the LCR network of the preamp circuit. It could also be a noise within any semiconducctor or the preamp IC. Unless you can do a signal test with the elimination of the input to the output amplifier, the fault will not be say to isolate. Hence if youarre familiar do the test by approching from the output amplifier's input, proceeding to the main input where the faulty section can be identified. Hope this helps. Good day

Clipping the channels

The manual discusses the Clip Inidicator and how to deal with clipping.

Clipping in this amp isprimarily a function of the input signal being distorted so the input level is recommended to be lowered. Beyond that the cause of input distortion would have to be addressed in the device producing it.

I have a PMP5000, used 5 times now. Last gig I

Cease using it immediately and get it serviced. There are failure modes of this that can do serious damage that requires a lot of work to repair.

If the temp sensors shut it down, it will restore if cooled off... If that doesn't happen service is required.

If just one side of the speakers went out I know exactly what has happened as I have repaired three of these all with same problem. If both sides are down and the rest seems to work, that is an uncommon failure

The cooling fan is throttled as needed and runs only when heat sinks get to a certain temp.

Both fuses burnt and both clip and signal led on? seems to have full power behringer ep2500

The fuses have blown due to a short circuit, ie some part acting like it was a piece of wire. The chances are (with the LED's showing) it's the main amp semiconductors (on the heatsink) that have gone. The cause is either connecting a wrong (unsuitable) speaker(s) for the job, or letting the two wires (to each speaker) touch each other.
