check the outside unit to see if it is running. If its not check the run cap which is the big silver round object. Make sure you are getting 240 volts to the contactor;

To cool off your Toyota after it has been parked in the hot sun, drive with the windows open for a few minutes. This vents the hot air, allowing the air conditioning to cool the interior more quickly.

Make sure the air intake grilles in front of the windshield are not blocked (by leaves or snow, for example).

On humid, do not blow cold air on the windshield. The windshield could fog up because of the difference in air temperature on the inside and outside of the windshield.

Keep the area under the front seats clear to allow air to circulate throughout the vehicle.

On cold days, set the fan speed to high for a minute to help clear the intake ducts of snow or moisture. This can reduce the amount of fogging on the windows.

When driving on dusty roads, close all windows. If dust thrown up b the vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle after closing the windows, it is recommended that the in intake be set to FRESH and the fan speed to any setting except "OFF".

If following another vehicle on a dusty road, or driving in windy and dusty conditions, it is recommended that the air intake be temporarily set to RECIRCULATE, which will close off the outside passage and prevent outside air and dust from entering the vehicle interior.

HEATING

For best results, set controls to;
Fan speed ---- Any setting except "OFF"
Temperature----Towards WARM (red zone)
Air intake ---- FRESH (outside air)
Air flow ---- FLOOR
Air conditioning ---- OFF

For quick heating, select recirculated air for a few minutes. To keep the windows from fogging, select fresh after the vehicle has been warmed.

Press the "A/C" button on for dehumidified heating.

Choose floor/windshield air flow to heat the voltage interior while defrosting or defogging the windshield.

AIR CONDITIONING

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

For quick cooling, move the air intake selector to recirculate for a few minutes.

VENTILATION

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

DEFOGGING

The inside of the windshield

For best results, set controls to:

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards WARM (red zone) to heat; COLD (blue zone) to cool
Air intake --- FRESH (outside air)
Air flow --- WINDSHIELD
Air conditioning --- ON

The outside of the windshield

For best results, set controls to:

Air intake --- FRESH (outside air)

A heat pump is an air conditioner that reverses its refrigerant flow. In the cooling mode, the evaporator is cold to the room and its condenser is hot. In the heating mode, a valve reverses the refrigerant flow and makes the evaporator warm and the condenser cold.

Car blows warm air when idling


It sounds like your AC unit could be overheating or even damaged.

AC units have a sensor that will turn them off automatically to prevent damage from overheating. If there is an insufficient amount of air flow, the unit will heat up, and then eventually turn off.

When the car is moving, more air is forced over the unit, likely keeping it cool enough to run, however, when the car come to a stop, it loses that air flow, and quickly heats up. Thus, the AC would work while the vehicle is in motion, and overheat and stop when the car is stopped and idling.

However, the AC unit could be completely blown. The cold air while moving could be just a case of air being forced into the car. Think of a house fan, the fast the wind blows on you, the cooler it gets.... Thus, it could be an illusion that the AC is working when car is in motion, when it really isn't.

check to see if the fan is blowing across the condenser. there should be warm air blowing out the back. if there isn't, the fan may need to be replaced so the heat exchanger can cool down. may be running too hot. also check the condenser in the front to see if the air flow is blocked with dust. if so, change the filter if it has one. if there is cool air blowing, the compressor may not be turning on.

The air is not cool when idling, it blows warm. Also the setting 1 and 2 doesnt work, only 3 and for makes air blow.


Sounds like 2 different problems here. The ac gets warm when standing idle, is most likely the under hood fan not kicking on when ac is on. This may be a fuse issue or a relay. When ac is on, the fan should be on all the time. Relay maybe in an electrical box under the hood. Unplug the fan and test for power with a test light to see if the fan has power when ac is "on".

The inside fan not working on levels 1& 2 is likely the voltage ballast issue. this is an electrical block which controls voltage to change fan speeds. Usually found under the passenger side dash, right in the air flow comming from the fan and inside the air flow housing. Usually held in by 2 or 3 screws with a connector and 3-4 wires sticking out. this should be under $20 to buy and quite easy to change, if you can find it. Try behind glove box etc. Do not test the new one without it being in place, as it may burn out very quickly without the air flow to cool it.

When the car is idling, the heater blows out cool air but when the car is moving, the heater works fine


When the coolant in the heater core is hot from the engine and your fan is on hot air will blow through the hot fan coil, i figured it out, when i stepped on the gas i could here the coolant squeezing by the control or limiter valve, because the higher rpms make the belt spin faster which makes the water pump pump harder causing more pressure, so when u idle that hot coolant will cool down from the fan blowing on it, u need to find the control valve and open it up to full blast, then hot coolant will always be flowing through your heater coil. ;)

My whirlpool acq128xp0 runs great one day, then barely starts the second day, It doesnt have the air volume or cooling it use too. Just started this year. Mike


Mike, when you stated it barely starts, to what are you referring? The compressor (condenser) section has an issue when starting or the indoor fan is hard to start?

If the fan does run, and the condenser unit outside is operating and you are getting lower than usual air flow (compared to previously), you may have a dirty filter, or you may have other obstructions at the evap coil inside the furnace or air handler. It could also be the unit is freezing up and ice on the evap coil is cutting down the air flow. Chances are if the coil is freezing over, you will have two issue that cause this:

Air flow issues (dirty coil, clogged air filter, or other obstructions across the evap coil, such as a plastic bag or pet hair, dust, ect.) which will also cause the coil to freeze over.

The other issue that would cause the low air flow is ice that is a result of low refrigerant.

If the system ran fine in the past, I will rule out it may be inproperly sized. Have you recently had a fan motor replaced on the indoor unit. If so, and they under sized the fan motor, then it could be the fan is not drawing, or blowing enough air across the evaporator coil and this will cause it to freeze over.

Look for ice on the suction line (piping) which is the bigger of the two lines coming from the outside unit (condensing unit). It is also the line that has the insulation covering it. If it has ice on it, then freezing is occuring on the evaporator. If so, then airflow issues, or refrigerant levels are usually the main culprits.

The two lines (suction and liquid) running between your indoor and outdoor unit should feel the following way to the touch of your hand:

Suction should be cold and possibly sweating if exposed (in places where no insulation is present).

Liquid line (smaller line) should be warm to the touch, but not too hot, or too cool. Should feel close to the outside ambient temperature if felt by hand.

Look these issues over and let me know.

Unit does not cool. Original unit was replaced because of defective compressor. Replacement unit worked in store but now does not cool and alternates blowing cool and warm air.


Is this a window unit? Sounds like the compressor may be cutting on and off. That would cause the alternating air temp you are feeling. Make sure the condenser fan is running. If it isn't running head pressure will build up on the compressor until it shuts down. Then the pressure will equalize and the compressor will kick on again. Also check your filters and the condenser coil to make sure it is clean. Let me know what you find.

The fan is constantly running and part of the laptop gets really hot


Check the vent where the fan should be blowing out hot/warm air for good flow. If you don't have any air flowing, you might find that the fan inlets are plugged with dust, or the fan blades are covered with dust/fuzz. Clean all the air passages, inlets and outlets to make sure the fan can flow enough air to cool the computer.
