The mother board is going out, or the drain pump is failing. Try un plugging it...... by which i mean turning the power off to the unit and doing a soft reset. See if it recycles into the normal mode and works.
I cannot find your mothers IWL16 model, but I have found various similar machines that are the same phase as your GWL11 machine, the electronics in there although different are compatible, you can swap the drain pumps, there almost universal, avoid the drive shaft machine, fix the other one
If you want further help, post a photo of both pcb's (the electronics)
After swapping your machine will stil require programming which is simple enough
Check out the fuses on the main controller board if they are fitted. If you need a new motherborad you can get one from Fisher & Paykel in Australia at http://www.fisherpaykel.com.au/customercare/contactus/
Please remove the power plug and keep aside for a while as the main control panel buttons are pressed to remove any residual voltage on the main board / processor.
If this wont reset then check the input sections, the door switches, the drain filters, the drain pump. Remove, clean and reset.
If not there are faults in the mother board.
Possible that the mother board has a higer current drain on the back up circuit . You can remove the button cell and check on the board/connections around this section. If there is dirt or moisture wash the board after removing power- allowing time for voltage to drop - use petrol and a tooth brush to clean this section. if the fault does not clear then the mother board has to be checked.
