Re: gpsmap 180 firmware corrupt

It sounds like it has lost its memory battery. Usually you
would get a "memory battery low" message as it is on its
way out but you don't mention that so perhaps it has
completely failed.

The battery is rechargeable - if you leave it switched off
and loaded with a fresh set of alkalines for a few days it
may recover. If not contact Garmin as they have replaced
many memory batteries free of charge even out of warranty.

I recommend upgrading your system software to the latest version (5.30),
follow this link for directions and the file's location.

  1. Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.
  2. Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.
  3. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
  4. Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
  5. Load the SD card into your GPSMAP 545s and turn it on to replace the system software of your unit.
I hope that helps.

I have 2 data cards for Garmin gpsmap 180 and working well.I got this offshore boat from Tallahasse 3 wks ago that has a built in Garmin gps 180 with 2 data cards on it and I have no use for it because I have the boat in Texas now. Don't know if this is the right one that you need, all I know is that these 2 cards are programed for Florida gulf.I can ask the previous owner of the boat about the details of these 2 cards. I'm willing to trade it for a data card for the lower gulf preferably from Brownsville, Tx. to Louisiana or anything that will cover Port Isabel, Port Mansfield, Port Aransas. You can e-mail me at or call me at (956) 240-8420 .My name is Oliver.

I turn my GPS on and it kept showing GPS 1% firmware. Can you please tell me how to get rid of this problem

Please go to the Garmin website at and download their webupdater on to your PC. Connect your Nuvi to the PC with a USB cable and run the webupdater. It will check to see if you need ay firmware upgrades and also look for a selection called GPS chipset. You want to upgrade your Nuvi with the GPS chipset. Your GPS receiver has corrupted data and needs to be reflashed.

You need to replace the internal Battery with the Panasonic BR2032-1F2 battery. However, yes your waypoints will most likely get lost when you do this.

Garmin GPSMap 60 CSx USB Connection

Actually, I just solved the problem myself...

I went to Garmin's driver download site ( and got the latest USB driver (2.2.1) for the 60C. (Although, it appears that that driver pertains to all Garmin products, not just the GPSmap series or the 60C.) Installation instructions are pretty much standard for Windows drivers, so it's easy.

That: a) Garmin requires special USB drivers for their product is finicky (most USB-connectable products just connect automatically using Windows' generic USB driver), and b) my unit -- which had always worked just fine, and suddenly stopped connecting out of the blue -- remains a mystery. Nonetheless, a driver upgrade was the final step that I needed. (Although, I also swapped USB cables and upgraded MapSource, too, so maybe it's some combination of those things.)
