If your control has an actual timer function that does not turn the dryer off at the end of the "timed Cycle" the most probable cause is shorted contact within the time which require replacement of the timer.
Hoever, be aware that most dryer now days work on a sensing devices which monitor the humidity level of the cloths and ignore the time.
be sure that you are addressing a TIMING issue and not a sensing issue which is a completley different set of circumstance

good luck

My dryer works on high heat on the timed side of the knob, but won't work on the low heat and high heat (more dry, less dry or energy preferred setting)

Does this mean the timer wont move or it will not dry ? if it will not dry it is more than likely the timer , if it wont advance then you have a shorted element

Service manual for GE DPSR473EW0WW dryer

the timer may be stuck at a certain place as they have points that at times tend to burn out and stick when the timer gets to that point. do the other settings work? some times the moister sensor will not sense dry clothes and keep running? as for ur drum noise that may be due to bad rollers or bad tensioner and belt depending on ur model and hopefully not bad bearings also a possibility

Dryer not turning on.........before I would change the timer setting and it would would work.......after a couple of weeks, when i change the timer setting it wouldn't turn on at all. Question is

Definitely sounds like a timer problem. Sears Parts Direct should have your part. The model # you supplied is incomplete to determine if you have a gas or electric dryer. Check the model # again and go to Sears page to find the correct part.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer model 97591220. wont

Disconnect power to the dryer and remove the screws attaching the console rear panel to the console and pull the panel off.

Inspect the wires connected to the timer and ensure a snug fit connection. Clean the connectors and terminals then reseat it several times to ward off dirt within the connectors.

Reconnect power to the dryer and start it; replace the timer (part number 3398195 ) if the dryer still won't stay running. Unplug the dryer and pull the timer knob off the console. Remove the screws securing the timer to the bracket and remove it. Secure the new timer in place then disconnect the wires from the old timer one at a time and connect it to the corresponding terminal on the new timer.

Push the timer back into position on the console and secure the console rear panel in place.

Whirlpool Gas Dryer LGR7646JQ1 Auto Setting Does Not work

I am thinking the timer has gone bad, They tend to work in some spots, and not others , when they fail. If you can put the dryer in Auto mode, then nudge the timer until you hear the burner light, see if it continues from there. If it does, chances are pretty good it's the timer.

My Amana Model NDG5800AWW dryer has ceased to dry clothes dependably. The Only setting that still sort of works is HIGH timed drying, and this heats up to what used to be the "delicate" setting....

if you are using the auto dry setting and the dryer is still running after 5 hours you either have a timer issue or a thermostat problem.

The timer is driven by a motor, if the timer motor is bad the timer wont time out.

in the auto dry cycle the thermostat has to cycle off and on which then sends power to the timer again advancing the timer.

set the timer in a timed dry cycle for say ten minutes, if the timer advances and turns off then you know the timer works. if it doesnt advance you have a timer motor issue,

if the problem is the auto cycle, you could replace the thermostat, about $20 american. however a clock timer would be cheaper.

Based on how old is your machine and do you want to stick a timer in it after already paying the service man is up to you.

A basic bath towel load should be dry in about 50 minutes, this varies on how good your seals are and how long a vent you are running, if the dryer vent was plugged you already have shortened the life of your heating element.

Electric dryer wont heat or turn off

there could be a temperature switch that tripps off. look at the diagram and trace also the power to the timer motor. it seems that you lost your power to your timer motor that is why the timer stays @ what ever setting you set it.
