SOURCE: The printer is making a gear clicking sound.

I had exactly the same problem with my OfficeJet 6110 as reported above (i.e. the scan head not knowing where the end-stop is). This is how to fix it (this method worked for me) 1) Lift up the scanner/copier hinged lid. Around the edge of the scan glass are 4 Torx screws. Undo all four screws. 2) Carefully prise the control panel faceplate off. The buttons underneath are on a single panel. Slide this to the left and lift off. 3) Jiggle the lid of the scanner to get it off the main body of the printer. 4) Locate the scan engine motor (top right corner) and remove the two motor retaining screws (one on the left of the motor, the other on the right). 5) Lift out the entire mechanism (rod, drive belt, scan head) and turn over. 6) Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrored areas of the scan head. Also clean the scan lamp on the top of the scan head. Clean the tray inside the scanner (where the scan head travels back and forth). Also clean the inside and outside of the scanner glass pane itself. 7) Refit all parts, using the technique described above, in reverse order. 8) Switch on printer. It should now work OK. Hope this helps, guys.

What is the cause and solution of a loud grinding noise coming from a xerox workcentre 6605 when printing

Sometimes when the toners get low on toner you will hear the gears grinding, or if there is an obstruction in the waste toner auger. Also check the drum units to make sure they are turning freely.

5120 code error

Any of these error codes (51.20 51.21 51.22 51.23) points to a failure with one of the laser scanner assemblies on the HP Color LaserJet 4610 an 4650 series. To solve these error codes, replace the corresponding laser scanner. Sometimes when the laser scanner fails you will also hear loud noises (often higher-pitched noises like screeching sounds); the noises can be another sign that the laser scanner needs replacing.

Any time I hear that complaint I cringe. Not because of the noise but what it might be telling me. I usually hear that noise as the hot roller bushings &/or the main gear that drives the fuser is cracking or already cracked and is ready to fail. This causes the roller to bind up hence, the grinding noise. Sometimes a drum can seize and that will also make that sound but if you're able to print OK that is probably not the issue.

I have a CL4000DN making a grinding noise when first turned on any ideas?

it is possible that the drive gear in the fuser has failed. this will cause a very loud grinding sound in the back of the unit where the paper comes out. you can order new gears for it but sometimes its easier to replace the Fuser.in saying all this where is the noise coming from?

Grinding noise in cartridge for hp laserjet 1200 series printer. I replced cartridge and still hear noise sometime worse and then not so loud.

I have the same problem and I know what is causing my problem. It's not in the cartridge. You're laser scanner is going to go bad. I had the problem 3 months ago. I would only make the grinding noise when it powered up. Printing was okay. I don't use the printer that much. Then about a week ago I notice only the bottom diagnostic light was on. I unplug the power and powered it back up. The grinding noise got louder and wouldn't stop. I unplugged the printer an replugged. Same thing.

I was bored (christmas day) and decided to open my printer to see what the root cause problem was. I removed several screws and once I got all the printer naked (removed all the plastic outside). I plugged it in an tried to listen where the problem was. I notice a vibration at the laser scanner (top black piece). I unplugged the printer. I unplugged the power source to the laser scanner. Replugged the power and saw all the gears move with no noise. Powered off. Replugged laser scanner. Powered on. Noise back. Defective laser scanner. The laser scanner has a ribbon cable, and four purple wires going to it, oh yeah there is a big yellow warning label, so you can't miss it. I hope this helps.

Start up problem with printer

Your scanner glass is get dirty and all scanners make a self diagnostic program when we turn on the printers.
At this point, you will hear a little noise from the scanner carriage lamp, witch is doing self calibrating. In this calibrating time the scanner unit "read" the white and the black levels, and the white (in your case) is not white, is quite gray because is dirty.

The solution is a very simple, but require much skill.

You must disassembly the scanner unit, remove any screw you see (you need an no. 2 phillips screwdriver) and very gently remove the upper side (with glass) from the rest of scanner unit. Please note that is several plastic fasteners to be disposed.

after you remove the glass (with a plastic frame) you get a small tissue of cotton and soaking with an windows cleaner solutions. Gently clean the BOTH surfaces of scanner glass.

For assembly follow the reverse procedure.

Beware to the glass, it has only 3 mm thickness. Don't broke!

Like I sad: simple problem, but require much skill. If you think is to difficult for you, please go to the service.

When you say the gears are not messing, what exactly do you mean.

Do you actually hear gears grinding, or are you just having an issue with magenta not printing properly.

if you hear grinding, where is the noise coming from? at the top right corner by the toner, or on the right side in the middle?

In either case, if you actually hear a grinding noise, this would require replacement parts to repair as these are not consumable user replaceable items.

It's an calibration error caused in the optics section. Make sure there is nothing on the scanner glass but the cover itself. Turn the power off, wait 30 seconds and turn the power back on again.

Do you hear any grinding noises when the machine is initializing?

Clicking nosie from scanner bed on epson cx5800f

I had a similar problem, the scanner bar was stuck to the far left side. Here's how I fixed it:

1)Unplug the printer, disconnect any cables/phone lines to it.
2)Lift up the entire scanner bed housing(you will see the printer ink cartridges).
3)Locate the access patch (approx 1 cm x 1 cm square) along the left edge of the scanner bed housing(this is the side that closes in, next to the keypad buttons).
4)Using a small knife blade, peel off the patch from the corners and edges(it's sticky. Save it, you can stick it back over the hole when you're done).
5)Stick a pen through the access hole, and push the scanner bar to the right, approximately 2-3 inches.
6)Now, close the scanner housing, plug in the printer, and power it on.

It should reset and re-calibrate the scanner bar. If it doesn't, repeat steps 5) and 6) a couple times, until the printer correctly performs calibration. Then, you can put the sticky patch back over the hole, and you're ready to go. Hope this helps!
