I have an HRC200 hend held or remote thermostat. I put in the new battery for this year and the current temperature shows on the left side, but the set temp does not show on the right. I cannot make anything happen when I push any of the buttons. I don't have the manual anylonger and I think maybe the child lock was somehow set??? Do you have any ideas?

There is a crack separating the front and back of the unit. Using a pocket knife gently pry around the unit until the front (or back) separates. Voila...the batteries are visible. The next step depends on whether the batteries are held by springs that are mounted by screws or just held by the case parts being snapped together...Before you put in new batteries check the polarity!
It's unlikely that you need a new remote. It simply needs to be reprogrammed with the correct code again. Remotes can "forget" the programmed codes if the batteries run down completely or if the new batteries aren't inserted quickly enough.
Make sure that you have stepped through the entire process of setting the current date and time using the Systems Option menu on the remote. Note that it appears that some firmware updates leave you with an option to select AM or PM hours from the System Options-->Set Time. However, the most recent firmware update seems to have removed this ability, so only a 12hr clock is shown, and there is no option to set AM or PM. The clock will always default to AM. So, one workaround is to simply set the time before noon! Also, the remote will pick up the correct date and time when connected to the computer (assuming your system clock is correct) and you update the remote. Hope this helps!
The remote works once the right room temperature is sensed (66F) by the remote, This is a room temperature triggered remote. However, if the thermostat at the remote becomes defective, then there is no way that the remote will function. You have to do it manually.
I had the same problem - my kid stuck it in her mouth and then the screen stopped working. I was finally able to fix it by doing the following:
1. I took the remote apart by
a. taking out the four screws under the battery cover.
b. then, I used a small slot screwdriver as a wedge and ran it up the length of the edge of the remote while prying the top and bottom apart.
2. Once i had it apart, I took a blow dryer to it to blow out any dust and get rid of any moisture
3. I put it back together and it was in Safe mode
4. I took out a battery, held down the #2 button, and put a battery back in and got the "Update Successful" message
5. To my surprise, the remote was fixed.
