Question about Kenwood Car Audio & Video

Kenwood KVT-910 DVD unlock code

I purchased a used car with this head unit in it. It requires an unlock code for it to be activated and the previous owner has no idea what number could have been used. I have tried all the basic's and get nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Password code for kenwood kvt-512

The password code is something you set yourself by going into the settings. If there is a security code already set up it is because: A) you bought it used and the previous owner set it up...just ask them, or B) It came new from the factory with this settings error...call kenwood, or the place where you purchased.

Kenwood kvt-719 brake bypass code needed

I've never seen a code that allows it, but you can do it in the wiring harness. Most DVD head units have one extra wire in their wiring harnesses, compared to a standard CD head unit. On mine, it's a peach-colored wire, and is the activation wire for the DVD feature. During the installation, the instructions call for this wire to be tapped into the emergency brake indicator light wire. The reason is this:

The e-brake indicator light is what is called a "ground complete" circuit. That means that the bulb always has power applied, but when you pull the brake, that puts a ground to the wire and completes the circuit, allowing it to illuminate. The head unit sees this ground, and activates the DVD player.

In my Jensen unit, I simply ran this wire to a ground (I used a screw near the fuse box), and I put a switch on the wire, so I could break the ground contact at will. Jensen calls for a procedure to activate DVD playback. In their instructions, they tell you to select DVD from the option menu, and when the "lawyer screen" comes up (the one warning you to park before you watch a movie), you release the e-brake for 3-5 seconds, and then reapply it. To simulate that with the switch I used, I leave the switch closed (activated), and select DVD. Then I flip the switch "off" for 3-5 seconds, and flip it back "on". This tricks the head unit into thinking I put the e-brake off for a few seconds and then put it back on, and the movie will start. Then I can drive away.

Basically, ground the wire that is used for DVD activation, and put a switch inline on it. Then you can break and reapply the ground in whatever manner is required by the manufacturer of your head unit. If there is no off/on sequence with yours, as there is with mine, simply ground the wire to a screw inside the dashboard and you're done.

Require unlock code for unit as no documentation, this unit arrived in a vehicle i bought from japan and i m eager to get it to work. HDV-910 Kenwood

As I have informed another person on this site; there are only two ways to aquire an unlock code, you'll have to send it back to Kenwood or ask the person who sold you the car. If you send it back to Kenwood they'll require proof of purchase.

You have to take the unit and your receipt of purchase to an authorized Kenwood dealer to have them reset it for you. You will have to prove you purchased it since the whole security thing is to keep thieves from being able to use it.

A brain is required period. The only way to use the head unit is to have the brain. I have 3 complete 815 setups in my vehicles and they all work flawless. A brain is required. Should you want to sell your head unit, let me know
