What makes you think it's the wire harness (visably chewed up?)
how about a simple key switch they go bad all the time on my stuff Poor design by these companys (or is it?) to make the key switch on top, right where rain water runs down off top cage

Testimonial: "Good morning J.D., Thank you for responding. I absolutely can't beleive it, but I discovered last night that I hooked the battery up backwards. Yep, positive to negative and vice-versa. Sheer stupidity. So, now my problem is much bigger than I thought. Trying to find any fuses. I located one to the left of the engine next to two relays. The fuse was good, but I replaced it anyway just in case. No luck. Took off the covers for the ignition switch and the Boss system. No fuses there either. I'm thinking I cooked some wiring. After you get done shaking your head back and forth in disbelief over my stupidity, do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Bill"

well if this was built after 92 it's got a engine control module you most likely destroyed it by reverseing power

SOURCE: Bobcat 553 f - traction lock

sounds to me like a bad connection or a weak solenoid causing the voltage drop. a good alt charges at 14.25-14.50. it takes voltage to open solenoids not close them.

Car won't start, seems to have power, all lights working. when I turn the key nothing happens. this only happens sometimes

Could be a bad alternator.. It may not be holding charge. Or your starter could have failed.

Though I've had the same problem and it was a dead battery in my vehicle. Had enough power, but to keep the car on..

Bobcat starter stays engaged

Trace the wire from the "st" on the ignition switch to the small post on the starter relay or solinoid. If you find another wire going off from there follow it to the diode. It is likely covered with insulating sleeve at one end of the wiring harness. It is about 3/8" in dia and 3/8 long. Please note the colored band at the end which denotes the cathode. It must be replaced with one going the same way..
Hope this helps, Robert

I think your bike is being powered through the starter solenoid by a defective starter button. The starter button is on the right switch assembly and normally turns the headlight off when depressed halfway. A wire may be plugged in wrong in the headlight (Two wires are crossed). Take apart the right switch assembly and check for shorts and power from the solenoid ). Check the main wire harness to the handle bar switch for crossed wires (they are color coded).

Your solenoid should have 2 large posts and 2 small posts. One of the large posts will have a cable from battery. The other large post has cable to starter. One of the smaller posts has a yellow wire with red stripe on it, the other I believe is black and is a ground. The yellow wire is the one that when the key switch is activated to crank engine, it supplies power from battery cable side of solenoid to starter side, thus making the starter function. Test to see if you have power to yellow wire at solenoid when someone tries to turn ignition key. Also as a side note, your remote contol has a neutral safety switch inside it which won't allow the engine to crank if it is in gear or broken.

Wont start with ignition when key is turned but is not the ignition or starter silonoud ?

There is a starter solenoid on the starter and another one on the firewall or inner fender.Follow the positive cable from the battery to the solenoid.Remove any covers that may be hiding it.Now,with the car in park or neutral and the park break set on you should be able to get it to crank by crossing the two large copper posts with a screw driver. If it cranks over now then you need to check for power to the small post with the black an red wire going to it.If you have power with the key in the start position then you need to replace that solenoid. If the is no power in that wire then you could either need a neutral safety switch or an ignition switch. If nothing happened when you crossed the posts on the solenoid then you either need a starter, the cables need to be cleaned or replaced, the nut on the starter solenoid could have loosened off,the small wire on the starter solenoid may have a bad connection or your battery does not have enough amperage in it to turn over the engine.Hope this helps.
