The red or white one, and polarity of the speaker is red+ black - if it is a black widow, The stamped steel peavey has the + - sign stamped into the terminal pad. you can always trace the hot wire as the one that connects to the tip of the 1/4 inch input or pin one of the speakon 4 connector. This works on any speaker.

KLH HPS 1100 powered subwoofer. as soon as plugged into AC we get a loud hum from spkr. had unit for 8yrs.

Hum usually indicates a power supply problem. If it has an internal supply you will need someone to check it's producing clean DC. Alternatively if you do open it (beware risk of shock!!) initially visually check condition of /replace any bulging electrolytic capacitors.

The YST SW305 amplifies both sound and undesired noises. Is there a means so as to prevent its response to go below 30hz?

Yes you can cut off the low frequency response by putting a capacitor in series with the input. Cut the RCA cable connected to the input and connect a .047MFD capacitor in series to the "hot" wire.
The hot wire is the wire inside the braided shield wire, this is the signal positive and the outer shield wire is the signal negative.Leave the negative intact. And experiment with various values of capacitors between .047 to ..22MFD till you are satisfied. The rating of the capacitor need be only 50volts.

When hooking amp directly to battery, you hook battery hot cable and power hot cable then hooking ground cable up the ground cable becomes hot and pops the fuse

your amp is bad. you should have a 12v, ground, and remote wire. if these are hooked up correctly, your amp is more likely broken, and needs to be repaired or replaced.

I need to get my alpine swx-1043d subwoofer vioce coils replaced were can i do this at

I would try alpine and/or do a web search for speaker repair or speaker rebuilding. In most cases vc replacement involves replacing the whole cone, vc, spyder, and maby the surround. Bassically all the moving parts in most speakers are glued toghther with high-temp epoxy glue.
If it's a type-x it's worth rebuilding. My guess is around $100
There are a few places out there that can hot-rod the rebuild with larger gauge vc wire and thicker lead in wire and other mods that will make sure this doesn't happen again. Do a thorough webb search. The more competant people out there do repairs and also custom build their own subs.

The subwoofer works sometimes and does not work sometimes

Hi it sounds like your voice coil is going out on your speaker. This happens if you drive them hard and the coil gets too hot it will burn the wires inside of the coil. You can have the voice coil rebuilt cheaper than it is to replace the speaker, but if they are under warranty then I would take it back.
