If it was that easy, there would not be any repair shops. But try ifixit dot com, to see if they already posted a repair tutorial for your camera.
First try to remove the battery for a minute or so and then replace it, closing the battery / memory card cover correct.

I dropped my on the floor. it was off at the time. Now I have a blank screen.

The display board may be broken it has three replaceable units
1. Screen (if damage / broken into pieces)
2. Display Connector (Which can damage when you drop)
3 The processor can be dislocated / even damaged severly
the best decision is to replace those part through service center

I dropped a short distance my maxtor 500Gb external HD

Open it up, and gently move the pickup arm, see if it got knocked out of place. When it is free, close it up and try again. If it is under warranty, send it back first.

Top portion of the screen doesn't work. It's blank. 32" lcd Emerson

Look, if you had a towel on in you probably protected it well, in case you were carrying it for few meters from your car to house, but even if a few drops get it they are probably not gonna cause any massive problems if any at all + after you let it sit there for an hour it should work normally (if drops didn't burn any components, short curcuits etc...)

So my best guess is that you bought a broken TV. :/

Laptop will not work

Believe it or not Laptops are very sensitive. The processors, motherboard etc. are only protected by a thin plastic covering. Your best bet is to call the brand laptop you have. (HP,Dell, Toshiba etc.) And send it in, will cost money, but if you don't wanna pay hundreds of dollars for a new one. I'd recommend sending it in.

Best of luck!

Laptop does a long beep, followed by two short beeps.

One long followed by two short beep IS a video error. However, your model laptop does not have a separate video card. The only fix is to replace the mother board. Here is the service manual that will show you how to take apart the laptop and even give you the part number you would need to replace the motherboard.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Monitor loses power randomly.

Is your monitor a CRT or LCD type. For CRT type information follows. In most cases your simptoms indicate a problem with the High Voltage or blanking circuits. Caution the High voltage can be as much as 40,000 volts and even unplugged from the wall the picture tube can continue to hold voltage (enough to hurt you). Do you here a snapping sound from the back of the crt. If you do the high voltage is shorting out and the protection circuit is turning off the high voltage. If you do not here sparking another possible cause is a faulty capacitor in the protection circuit or the flyback (high voltage transformer). Unless you are educated in electronic circuit repair this one is probable beyond your curren knowledge level. You can try taking the back off and cleaning out all the dust, but remember to stay away from the red wire that goes to the picture tube. Use only non metal cleaning tools. Good Luck
