I have an Iphone4 and the screen will randomly lock and then when I push the home button it will take a screenshot like the lock button is depressed. Also the lock button doesn't move when pressed.
Sounds like your lock button is stuck pressed down. You could try blowing out the button with some compressed air or using a toothpick or another small thing item to clean the area around the lock button. If these don't work you may want to take it to an Apple store to see if they can clean out the button or replace it.

If you have all your items saved to your computer with Active Sync, then do a master reset:
HTC Touch hard reset

You can also get tips & tricks from www.htcwiki.com
It has the latest and great updates, software, even known issues if you ever come across this. HTC does recommend that you do a master/hard reset once a quarter to keep it moving smoothly. Also, ensure you don't have a lot of open running programs. Perhaps once a day, clean the cashe and history. Do a soft reset (aka battery pull) once or twice a week. All depends on how hard you play with this lovely PDA device!
SOURCE: iphone black screen & buttons "pressed" while on call
I tried a solution to a similar problem and it worked for this problem, which I was having too. All I did was remove the leather case that I used to protect the iPhone. Calling and the screen worked like normal after I took the phone out of the leather case. Try that.

This is a condition that Apple is very aware of and if you take your iPhone to an Apple store they will replace it.
Make sure you take your receipt with you.
Other than that, I have not heard exactly what causes it, but i presume it to be a bad batch of LCDs or another critical part causing it.

it sounds like your iphone may either have a bad battery or your motherboard could have gone bad.
Try restoring it with whatever software you have on it and see if it helps.

Press the power button and the home button for 5-10 seconds it would turn off...if you have OS 3.0 or later then use Blackra1n RC3 and it will go in recovery mode after it enters recovery mode...open iTunes...your iPhone will detect you iPhone in Recovery mode,in iTunes click restore,it will ask you to Restore and update...click on that and you`ll be finished..it will get back to its original settings and its done..but if you don`t use an official carrier like AT&T you wont be able to activate it and you would need to use WI-FI and download two software`s from the blackra1n icon on your iphone...One is Cydia and the other is sn0w that allows your phone to work with all carrier`s so do it and tell me here.....
