1999 volkswagen cabrio, wont start on its own, replaced the fuel pump, replaced in jectors, it WILL start when kicked off with starting fluid...but wont stay running...

I think you should open you exhaust in front of your catylitic converter. Pull the O2 sensor or just take the pipe off.

2001 VW Cabrio engine sputters and kicks and feels like it loses so much power gong up a hill. Thanks for any help! Russell

Perform a tune up on the vehicle. If no improvement is noticed, check fuel pump pressure, Your VW is about due for a new fuel pump.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Just replaced the fuel pump on my 95 explorerthe truck cut off while i was driving and wont start up again

first you need to find out if the fuel pump is kicking on or not by turning the key forward (without starting the car) and listening for a humming noise coming from the gastank (your new fuel pump) if no noise is heard, you need to check your connections.

1998 VW cabrio doesn't start. acts like it is not getting gas.

I wouldnt recommend someone messing with fuel lines, especially on a 2.0L 8v mk3 VW, without knowing exactly what theyre doing.

Make sure it has at least 1/3 tank of fuel. When you turn the key to the acc position, do you her a soft whirring for 1 to 3 seconds?

If so, that is your fuel pump pre loading your injectors. If you do no hear it, than it is possible its your fuel pump.

With someone helping, turn the ignition over, and have someone lightly tap the fuel pump under neath the car. It is located by the rear passenger wheel.

If you cant hear the fuel pump when key is first put in the ACC position, but the car stutters and turns over while the pump is being tapped, its your pump.

Your best bet would be to take it to a certified vw mechanic, and have them do an inspection with a tuneup including a new fuel filter

Im have a prob with getting my 1989 cabrio to start. It just quit on me on day. I changed the fuel pump, but still no luck. It turns over, just wont start.....need help!!

First, turn on the key, just to the run position.
try everything that should normally only work with the key on, headlights, turnsignals, horn etc.

the first three generations of vw had somewhat weak ignition switches, especially if the owner had a tonne of keys, keychains, teddy bears and **** dangling off their key ring.

if these thing do not work with the key in the on position, then you need an ignition switch.

if they do work you need to investigate further to find out if you have fuel delivery and\or correct fuel pressure and if you have spark

Vehicle lost fire

the security system doesn't disable spark, it works by not letting the fuel pump run or not allowing the starter to work, but never does it affect spark or fire as you call it.

Unable to start my 2001 cabrio vw. I have a fairly new battery. Lights work. When I turn the key, there's nothing not a crank, nothing.

I would look to see if the anti-theft light is on next to the door lock. A 95 cabrio did this when I was test driving it. All we did was get out of the vehicle and manual lock and unlock the car, then it went away. This could definitely be more complicated than this, but always worth a try.
