The balance stitch control on this model is below the stitch patterns; to the far right.

If you need a manual you can download a free one at the Singer Company website.

SOURCE: while winding the bobbin my machine stopped

Turn the machine back on, slide the bobbin winder all the way over to the left, and push the reverse sewing button 3 times. That should reset the machine.

When I thread the bobbin, code 88 flashes, what is that?

Try zero your embroidery hoop carriage by off/on your machine before your next application, if no result disconect your embroidery unit and connect back again ensuring it is properly connected. Hope the problem can be solved.

Singer Patchwork C4 error

If it's brand new, it should have some paper work with it. The manual will most likely have an error code list. Also, it should have a troubleshooting guide, and mention how to reset your machine. When in doubt, I usually turn off the machine, and unplug it. Wait about a minute, and then plug back in, and turn back on, and that might reset it back to it's original format. Then carefully rethread the machine. Or another way to try it would be to thread it before you turn it back on. If you lack the paper work, most of the time you can type your brand and model #, into a search engine, and it will give you access to the error codes, and reset, and other instructions. The main problem with threading a machine, is making sure the thread catches on all the proper places and in the right order. Some of the places are hard to "see", and if the sensor doesn't sense that it is in place, it won't work. On any machine, even the older ones, I generally hold each sides of the thread as I thread it, to make sure it does "catch", into the proper places. (that is, if that is the case), but it could be at the bottom thread, below the needle too, so check that also.

Turned machine on, started to sew(about 4"), machine beeped, screen started flashing off & on, then it went off. Will not restart. Tried a new cord and that wasn't the problem

Look at your seam. If you have a bunch of balled up thread underneath the seam, part of the problem is operator error. Always always grasp the thread end while beginning the seam. I suspect that the thread gut bunched up under the material and caught up in the bobbin/shuttle area.

Remove the fabric, unplug the machine... get into the bobbin area, remove the bobbin, and if necessary clean threads caught up in the bobbin race/shuttle. reassemble and replace the bobbin... turn on the machine. Try again.

I push on the pedal but the needle doesn't move up and down. The machine makes a sound like it is working but nothing moves. The machine works if I manually turn the wheel. I get an error of c4 which means...

Sounds like the thread on top and the thread in the bobbin have knotted up or some of the material under the foot has gotten bound up under the plate.

My new Singer Stylist 7258 keeps getting a message code C4 and I can't find anything wrong with it. Please advise.

I looked in my manual, it says that C4 means that the thread is tangled or there bobbin was interrupted forcibly. Turn off and totally rethread your machine with presser foot up, insert a new needle and try again. Do this test, with the presser foot up, pull top thread, it should move easily, now lower presser foot, pull thread, it should barely move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs properly. I have this same machine, and love it.

Hi I have a brand new machine just out of the box and I can't get the machine to sew. The thread from the bottom is bunching up and getting the machine to stop and code c4 displays.... maybe...

It is in your top threading. Totally rethread, with the presser foot up, new needle, (flat side faces to the rear of machine and the other one may have a burr on it), now with the presser foot still up, pull your top thread, it should feed smoothly, then put the presser foot down, pull thread again, it should barely move. This should seat your thread, I am not sure what c4 means but more than likely a threading error message, tangled thread etc. Good luck, next time state your brand and model.

My machine is giving me an error 88 and keeps flashing fast when I turn it on.

I had that problem when the machine was not threaded correctly. I now floss the thread back and forth through the tension area everty time I thread the machine, to make sure the thread is in the right place.
