Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
How to take it apart? There are 6 screws.
Here is some generic information about shredders that may help you.
If you remove the "head" unit from the bucket, most of the shredders have screws fixing the housing top and bottom parts. Manufacturers normally use Philips type screw heads. Some shredders have the screws mounted under the sticker on the top of the unit. Therefore, if you do not locate the screws in the internal part of the head unit, they are certainly positioned under the top stickers/labels/control panel.
If you can locate the screw heads, make sure you do not use a smaller than the screw head size. Using smaller tolls may damage the screw head and then you may be unable to remove the screw unless you have special tools. Also, please remember the standard screws are released by turning the screw driver in a counter clockwise turn.
If the 6 screws you referred to are visible and easily reachable just follow the instructions above to unscrew them.
I would recommend you use a digital camera to take pictures (or take notes) to follow up the dismantling task so you will not get confused (or lost) when trying to put it together.
Make sure you dismantle it properly UNPLUGGED from the power as you will find "live" contacts inside the unit.
You may be able to pull the pieces of paper (or strange material) that caused the shredder blades to get stuck. You can also use a longneck plier to help pulling the debri out. After the shredder blades are clean, use a little bit of silicone grease to keep the gears running smoothly.
I hope this gives you some light in further investigating your problem.
