SOURCE: Bosch DLX series didn't drain, now no power

I had a Bosch DLX series dishwasher that had multiple problems.

First, it had greyish water in the bottom and pushing the power button did not turn on any lights. it had mostly finished a cycle, but not quite. my first thought was to clean it out. i sponged out all the water and removed and cleaned out the filters from the bottom which were all quite nasty. i found food, tiny bones, etc. I cleaned it out and that did nothing but was still probably the cause of the problem. I called Bosch tech support and asked about areset switch. There is none. They told me to switch off the circuit breaker for 30 MINUTES to reset everything. I did that which did not fix the problem.

I then examined the connector wires (connecting the electric to my house wiring) which are in the front under the kick plate, and discovered that they had MELTED! The wiring supplied by Bosch was stranded wire, and my home wiring is solid core. i trimmed the burnt stuff and reconnected it with new wire nuts. if this happens again i plan to disassemble the dishwasher's electric and replace the stranded wire with the good stuff.

That restored the electric and the lights and display. i then ran a test cycle and it seemed to just hum. my guess after googling a bit was that the float was stuck in the up position, and it was trying to drain. This site http://www.applianceaid.com/boschDW.html told me how to run the test mode.

"To start test program, press and hold both POWER SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH program buttons, then turn unit on by pressing ON/OFF button. When program buttons are released, lights above them will flash. To end test program, press ON/OFF button."

The test mode tested out all functions which I think wound up reseting the float switch which actually fixed the rest of it.

SOURCE: Bosch Dishwasher Model SMU 2046

First check the screen in the water inlet valve ( you have to take off the lower panel below the door and disconnect the water supply. If that doesn't work or isn't plugged, replace the valve.

SOURCE: Our Bosch dlx series dishwasher

Hello,

Welcome to Fixya ! You've come to the right place. The problem you're experiencing sounds like (unfortunately) a common one.

The water inlet valve has been an issue with B/S/H built ( this includes bosch, thermador, seimens & gaggenau ) dishwasher's going back to the mid 90's.

The part to repair it is available at most brick & mortar appliance part centers or you can check out on-line vendors such as repairclinic.com, apwagner.com etc.

Do a search for part # 1105846 at repairclinic ( that is their part # not B/SH/ ) you'll see what I'm talikng about. By the way it's about $35. Hope that helps move you forward.

Let me know if I can assist you further, or need help on how to change it etc. It's relatively easy with Bosch. Thanks for coming to "fixya" for your inquiries and please take a second to rate this answer according to my helpfulness.

Good luck.

Our Bosch DLX series dishwasher slowly fills up when it isn't running. If we don't use it for a day or two the water will flow out the bottom. When it runs, it runs normally.

Hi, the problem is the water valve itself. Based on your description and the fact that this is a common issue with Bosch dishwasher's a new valve will resolve the problem. You'll need a new valve assembly part # 425458 and it's available at most part's places or online. It is about $25 - $30. Let me know if I can assist you further. Thanks for using "fixya" for your inquiry. Please take a second and rate the info provided for you here. Good luck. Macmarkus :)

Leaves a scum on the dishes

Sounds like your water temp is too low, there is a heating element in the bottom that heats the water that is circulated,if it goes out it wont get hot enough to dissolve the soap,or clean your dishes.its not to difficult to replace.

Faulty inlet valve or water in the bottom tray which will activate the float swich and pump out any water. See that this moves up and down freely. Turn electrics off first.
