My sony laptop needs to bypass the log on password

This can usually be achieved but firstly you would have to prove the laptop belongs to you and isn't stolen - A Sony laptop will usually have a Microsoft Windows operating system and passwords can usually be changed using a 'boot' cd or password recovery disc (I'm presuming you haven't created a password recovery disc or you wouldn't have posted your question on fixya) - Download a boot cd and burn it to disc using another computer - set the start-up options on the locked laptop to 'boot from cd first' (You'd need to press one of the keys as soon as your laptop begins booting up to get into the BIOS or SETUP so you can choose this option - it might be shown on screen or you can Google it to find out which key to press) - Once you've booted from the cd instead of from the operating system on the laptop's hard drive you should follow the instructions on screen - then take out the cd, change the boot settings back to 'internal hard drive first', and re boot into Windows

I installed a cd-rw/dvd drive ts h492. its asks for a disk when i turn the computer on...and sits on a flashing prompt

Sounds like the PC is trying to boot up off the CD device. You may need to change the boot device options to have the hard drive come first. Possibly you may have seen a message flash on screen when starting... Press F2 for boot options (?) If so, do that, then follow on screen text to change the boot options to make the hard drive the first boot device. If you dont have that option, press the Del button when powering on to access the BIOS. Look in there for boot options. Same objective.
You will not have use of the mouse. Use the arrow keys to navigate and the Tab key to jump to next section = Read the navigation instructions at bottom of screen. DO NOT PLAY around here or you may really screw it up.

My sony vaio VGN-CS22GH laptop shuts doen by itself randomly. Please help

The issue may be due to any recent hardwrae or software changes and also due to any virus.
1. Remove any recently added hardware/software.
2. Try to boot the computer in safe mode. Press F8 button soon after restarting the computer to enter the advance boot option and select safe mode to boot computer in safe mode.
3. If issue persists even in safe mode, perform a system restore to an earlier time or date when the computer was working as expected. Performing system restore will not delete any data from the computer.
4. Reset BIOS to default values. (Press the F2 key after restarting the computer to enter and access BIOS).
5. Press F3 and F4 keys to reset the BIOS. or press the right arrow key until you reach the exit menu, then select the load BIOS default option.
6. Then, select the Yes option when promted, save the settings and select yes option. restart computer and check.
7. If still persists, perform a system recovery using the VAIO Care Software or the F10 recovery partition.
Note: ensure to backup any important data before perfoming system recovery. System recovery will erase all the data presnt in the computer.

How to go to bios option....Tried F2 key,DEL key and many options but couldnt get into BIOS menu....

The key to get into bios varies from motherboard vendor to vendor.

The site listed below shows a lot of the more common vendors

http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

According to the list Sony VAIO uses F2, and F3.

In my experience I tend to start pressing the key very early and often as I often find it does not respond well if you only hit the key once.

Only load up to windows prompt

Try boot the computer to the safe mode..

  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER
Let me know if that worked.

Thanks
Smith

How do i change the boot sequence. I have the Compaq sr1630- win xp os. Installed new hard drive after disk to disk copy. System has the Phoenix - Award Bios CMOS topman

During boot there should be a notifaction at the bottom of screen saying something like "Press Del for bios and F10 for boot menu" or something like that with other keys. If there is a boot menu option press the corresponding key and you will enter the boot menu. Here you can set the drive you want as first, second and depending on the motherboard third boot device.
If there is no boot menu option, enter the BIOS and go to advanced BIOS options, or something like that. There should be located a submenu called boot sequence, in which you can adjust the boot sequence too.

Safe mode set up in sony laotop

When powering up from a cold start press F8 as if tapping on a piano. You may get a boot from what screen first, in this case press Escape and then F8 immediately thereafter. You should then see a Safe Mode Selection boot screen. Options include, Last Known good configuration. Often this is a good choice. Sometimes you are presented with a selection of Restore Points to choose from as well. These all depend on the Bios you have and what version of that bios is installed.

Do the F8 tap tap until you get the Safe Mode boot screen. When you do choose Safe Mode, you are then asked what OS to boot, usually this is only the version of XP or Vista you have onboard. In any case take that and press Enter again.

Don't dismay should you not get the F8 key press right the first time, there is a certain knack to it.

Worldvet
