I'm sorry to say but that sounds like a hard disk failure. Classic symptoms.

Drive Smart Read Error / Kernel Data Inpage Error/1000-0143

have you restarted the PC? If you have and it works, then this error is NOT too much to worry about... As long as the drive is Booting for now you can copy off your files etc to say a USB drive... You do not need to copy the programs etc, usually you simply copy over your "My Documents" or "Users" directories. As all files saved are generally "Under" there if you have any, anywhere else of course you need to get them as well. Now the drive may NOT be totally "Ruined" it may simply require a Re-Format, and then replace the Operating System. After which you can restore your settings. Below is a Microsoft link that tells you how.www.microsoft.com › ... › Computer Setup and Maintenance -
Either with the "Old" drive or a "New" drive. set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD and put the Windows Install DVD in the drive, boot of this and follow instructions, when you come to the place to partition & Format, do this and do a full NTFS format... after which your system will be installed and you can load your drivers and programs again Also before doing all this go to the manufacturers web site and download ALL drivers for your model PC & Operating System. You need to do this so you can install the drivers for all your Video, Sound, WiFi network etc. after you install your operating System

The hinge is loose (there is a lot of Play ) and it goes to a blue screen with a kernel stack inpage error or black screen when i try to move the screen

Please stop using the laptop and have it serviced. You may be able to fix it yourseff if you're mechanically inclined and get yourself the service manual from Dell. I got mine for my Inspiron 9100 for about $10 from eBay.
The wires that feed the signal to the screen are located in the hinge area, and using the laptop in this condition is probably shorting the wires, causing the blue screen of death.
Good luck!

Hi received today a refurbished compaq 5000 nx laptop when first switched on i entered my wireless code and could access the internet, then computer said critical microsoft updates needed to download, when...

The black screen means that the Operating System is obsolete. The blue screen of ***** means that the Operating System is corrupted or you have a virus. My suggestion is to buy Windows 8.1 or 10, and do a clean install. This will wipe all the corrupt files and viruses off of the computer. After you install the new Operating System let Microsoft do all the updates. And make sure automatic updates is turned on. Hope this helps

Kernel stack inpage error

Hi Janhams,

Unfortunately the screen you are seeing has a name for it "the BSOD" or blue screen of death (click here for more info). by your description of the clicking sounds id say that it is an intermediate to serious hardware problem, but there are so many reasons for the BSOD that its hard to nail it down to just one.
That said the BSOD can happen because of conflicting software and/or hardware failures. Think back a bit and try to remember if you put any new software on the pc before this started happening. If you did, try uninstalling that software.

If the answer is no then:

If it were my PC as soon as i see the BSOD I would replace the RAM memory and wait to see if it happens again. You can find the RAM just inside the CPU its an easy job (couple of screws and your done) and i can walk you through it if you like.
If it did happen again I would reformat the hard drive and again wait to see if the BSOD shows its ugly head.
If you follow the two steps above and you still get the BSOD then you know that its a more serious hardware problem and needs some hands on maintenance by a professional.

If you choose to reformat and want to do it yourself please click on my profile and ask me How do i reformat.

It is best practice with a used computer to completely format and
clean-install Windows. In your case, this is what you definitely need to
do after performing some hardware diagnostics. Here are links that will
show you how to do a clean install and what you will need on hand:
