Olympus E520 compact flash card error

This is the 3rd compact flash card that after a few weeks says card error. If I restart the camera, it will change to card full. Every few times it will return to normal, but after taking 2-3 pictures it says card error again. When I try to format the card either nothing happens or it says unable to format and returns to the card error screen.

I hope you never tried to put in a memory card in, the wrong way around. This could have damaged the contacts in the camera. Or perhaps only one or two contacts in the camera are dirty or oxidised?
With a bright light and perhaps a magnifying glass, look in the memory card holder, to see of all contacts are clean and shiny and not one is bent, ir has a little dent.
If a contact is dirty use a little wooden or plastic tooth pick, to solve the problem. eventually make the point of the pick a bit softer, be cats for rubbing of some dirt, this will be enough. You never should use sharp looks in or close to a camera.

Testimonial: "Thank you, I spent 2 hours using cotton swabs and air pumps to get rid of any dust I could see. I knew it could not be a card issue because every now and then the photos would show up on the camera again. Anyway, after a thorough cleaning it seems to be in perfect working order again, hope it stays that way! Luckily none of the contacts were bent either. I think it is also possible that the battery contacts were affecting the problem."

SOURCE: xD card Error

Hi all. I too had the same problem and after trying all the possible solutions (aperase, smprep, smformat, etc.) I finally found one working application that helped me solve this problem. Download Flashdoctor from here http://driver.zol.com.cn/detail/10/95395.shtml

Insert your xd card into a card reader connected to your PC then run Flashdoctor. Format your xd card using this tool then insert it back in your camera, voila! I formatted it again through the camera just to be sure, now everything's working fine. Hope this helps as it helped me. Good day!

SOURCE: Olympus c350, Memory card

Hi!

According to the user manual - the maximum size of memory card it can support is up to 256MB only. However, many users claim that it can support up to 512MB.

SOURCE: Olympus 2G xd M card with pictures - error message "clean card" or format

Just had the same issue today. The Olympus Helpdesk told me that the fact I had printed one of the picture from the Xd card in directly inserting the card in the printer slot for Xd created the problem....
The guy from the Helpdesk strongly recommended to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer exclusively using the USB cable of the camera.
In the end I have saved all my 505 pictures in using the Smart Recovery from PC Inspector but why the hell this problem only happens with Xd cards?

SOURCE: Format problems of Olympus 1Gb card with C-750UZ

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

When you switch on the camera it states the compact flash card is full,-when actually its not

make sure you are using the recommended card by Olympus.
Try moving all existing files to a computer.
then reformat the card on the camera.
the camera will most likely be asking you if you want to reformat.
Reformatting the card will allow the camera to read the files from there on.
If repair is needed try: http://www.teleplancamerarepair.com/manufacturer/olympus.asp

I have olympus e520 the camera is saying card error and i cant retrieve pictures is there any way to retreive pictures and why did this happen

It's either the card or the camera- do you have any other cards and do they work in the camera?- if the do you might try using a card reader hooked to your computer and try a program like Image rescue or Photorecovery. All camera memory cards are just that- much like the memory in a computer and vulnerable to physical and electrostatic damage

Olympus E10 pins bent on compact flash slot

That is correct. The camera should default and detect that a smartmedia card is now inserted to the camera and write the images to that card. As I stated earlier, the cards are independent of each other.

The compact flash slot in my Olympus E10 has two bent pins

You can also use the smart media card slot. The two cards function independently of each other.

Based on what you report the camera would need to be serviced. Regretfully all parts, accessories and repair service have been discontinued due to the age of the camera.
You may refer to the yellow pages for local camera repair centers who maybe able to offer parts and service on the camera.
As a loyal Olympus customer, our Customer Service Department is also available to discuss other options available to you.
They can be reached Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00PM East Coast time, at: 1(800)622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

Media cards

You can use Compact Flash cards (Type I and II) and Microdrive. By connecting with the CF Card adapter (MACF-10), xD-Picture Cards can also be used. Basically, you can use any manufacturer's Compact Flash Card in EVOLT E-300. The following Microdrive cards are verified as compatible with the E-300 camera: DSCM Series - DSCM-10340, DSCM-10512, DSCM-11000 3K4 Series - HMS360402D5CF00, HMS360404D5CF00
