Question about Fellowes Office Equipment & Supplies
We use this shredder in the office, and I was shredding paper and it gets overheated. Normally I can pull the paper out, but this time, it is only a little bit, so it gets stuck under the lip of the gap, between the blades and the opening. Is there any way the silver part can be taken off, or what is it better to do?
Some office shredders have a removable mechanism; others require removal of the bin followed by turning the unit upside down to get access to the mechanism. In any event, with power disconnected the next procedure is to remove the shreds of paper jammed in the mechanism. This is a long, tedious process requiring perhaps tweezers, needle nose pliers and infinite patience. Eventually, the shredder will work again (unless the motor has burned out).

SOURCE: Infoguard shredder jam
When you set it to reverse, it Should propel the paper back out the top, where it's jammed. If it does not, remove power to the unit, and get ready for the long laborious process of removing the jam with a pair of tweezers. A hazard of paper shredders, maintenance can be a bit on the silly side.

SOURCE: Motor on / Blades don't move.
Sounds like the internal gears or drive shafts are either broken, or out of alignment. Not exactly something that can be easily fixed usually. Hopefully, it's still under warranty?

Take it apart and clean the switch with compressed air.
Be careful when you put it back together that you don't allow the wires to touch the fan.
You also have to make certain that the small plastic teeth that seperate when you feed paper are aligned properly.

there are two switches under the cutter area. 1 for sensing when your basket is full, (sometimes these bin-full flaps get stuck in the up position, energizing the switch) and the other is a switch that detects if your basket is installed. fellowes has modified these shredders so many times, that there are alot of different configurations. look for something that resembles a flap under the head and make sure its in the down position. as for the basket sensor, some baskets had 2 projections on the left and right top of basket. one may be broke. if so, you can "cheat" the switch with a screwdriver to see if thats the problem.
