Question about GE Energy Star PDS22SIS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Freezer not maintaining temp

When used frequently temp is not maitained in both frig and freezer. During the week while we are at work the temps are a little high when get home but on the weekends when we are in and out of the frig/freezer temp is very high. Plus the front panel between frig and freezer is extremely hot.

Sounds like the evap thermistor took a ****. in the back of your freezer you have cover that sits over the refrigerator coil. under this coil sits a heater element that is turned on and off to defrost the refrigerator coil based on how long you've had the door open. the evap thermistor reads the temp inside the freezer.. close to the refrigerator coil.. and tells the heater element to turn off after it reaches a set temp where it can be sure that the ice has melted off the refrigeration coil which is about 60 deg. if your thermistor has taken a ****.. your heater element will only shut off based on the "fail safe" time (which is based on how long you've had your fridge door open) leading to a hot freezer.
i suspect your at home more on the weekend.. inside the fridge.. getting cold beers.. and that is why it ends up hotter on the weekend.
Cheers!

Freezer temp cycles above freezing

If you have a frost free refrigerator then temp jumps as you discribe are somewhat normal during a defrost cycle. However it sound like your defrost temp may be getting too high. There is a limit thermostat on the freezer coils that keep the defrost temp from getting too high. The part is called a (defrost termination thermostat) and is a round disk about 1 to 1.5 inch in diameter clipped to the top of the freezer coils with 2 wires coming out of it. When cold, it allows power to the defrost heaters. At around 35/40 degrees it opens and shuts off power to the heater. 35/40 degrees sounds high for a freezer temp but that is behind the wall and only for a short time. Yours may be staying on too long or out of temp calibration needing replaced.

What does it mean when "LL" shows up in the temp light box? Also the wine fridge was very cold with condensation inside and out. We just got home from a week away and noticed a high whining sound as well.

You may have had a power surge or outage while you were gone. The temp sensor may have failed or the control board may have failed. Either way, the code means that the temp in the frig is not the temp that it is set to be.

Amana bottom freezer temp 16 below. Turn temp down a little temp goes to 20 above

With that kind of spuratic actions I would strongly lean toward that the temperature control, also know as the cold control , is probably malfucntioning. Before I can 100% call that fact I would need more inforamtion, model number the most important. Also, a description of how the machine looks on the inside, like frost on the wall, ice, etc.

Freezer not cold enough

setting the freezer at 7 opens the baffle from the freezer to the fridge to make the fridge colder. It works completely opposite than a person would think. Feel in the back of the fridge with it on this setting. The freezer is dumping all its cold air into the fridge thus equalizing the two parts. if you move the selector to 1, you should feel the air from the freezer cut off in the fresh food compartment. try a setting in the middle and let sit for 24 hours. Hope this helps

If the freezer is staying cold it sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out ACMEHowTo.com for troubleshooting the defroster problem.
There is a small duct between the freezer and refrigerator side if this is blocked the frig side won't cool.
