My jbl eon 15 g2 smell like burnt and everything works but the big speaker

The voice coil in the big speaker could have been damaged if driven to loud. See if the burnt smell is strongest near the center of the big speaker. If the voice coil is fried, you may be able to still find a replacement as there is a part number for the voice coil (V/C Assy, EON-G2220-27005-00) and the cone (EONG2
Cone Repl. C2REON15P-2)

I have a 12" Peavey

The voice coil is probably damaged. You can get replacement basket that has the cone, basket, and voice coil for under $100 and put the old magnet on it. Reconing costs as much... you can change the basket in 5 minutes. Sometimes the voice coil partially separates from the cone or you can see it has overheated when you take the magnet off. Be careful not to get contamination in the magnet asembly. The basket is part number SP12825 RB for a 12 inch 8 ohm type..

Well, you have 3 options really,

My subwoofer keeps making a clunking noise...How do I correct this problem?

The clunking noise could be the voice coil maxing out hitting its stop or a warped voice coil. How much power is going to the subwoofer. If it only happens when the high volume setting it and not at medium volume the subwoofer may not be able to handle the power. With your hand gently push the speaker cone back and release the cone so it can return to its rest state several times. Do you hear a scratching sound or feel any resistance? If you do your voice coil is damaged if not from physical means it could be from the voice coil overheating. If it is OK shake and rap on the subwoofer box and try to identify any loose parts which could be making noise.

How do u disassemble the jl 12w7, the cone is stuck

if the cone is stuck, it is possible because the voice coil over-heated. There is really no way to disassemble the speaker without re-coning it. The thing you can do is manipulate the cone with your fingers gently, and it might release. Be careful. hope this helps.

It sounds like one of the voice coils is loose how do i get the plastic piece that connects to the spider out thanks

The "plastic piece" doesn't give any of us much to go on... there are many parts connected to the spider. Examples are the cone edge flexure and the centering flexure near the voice coil.

Most f these are held with adhesive.

If a voice coil is loose, it is undoubtedly damaged beyond repair. They rub the pole pieces and wear insulation off and short out blowing the amplifier.

Best to take it for re-coning or read up how to do it. Then you need to get a kit of the materials. There are adhesives, solvents, and new voice coil, centering flexure piece and usually the cover.

I think that one reason for a speaker to rub is due to over heating of the voice coil. This happens when power is applied to the speaker that is greater than the speaker is capable of handling. A second cause could be that the suspension and or cone is damaged or degraded causing the coil to be tilted or off center. In either case nothing short of rebuilding the speaker can be done to repair the speaker. Rebuilding would involve removing the cone and voice coil and replacing with new items. If you were talented you might be able to repair the existing cone or voice coil but the results could be iffy.

First of all how many ohm's are each subwoofer rated at . Are the subwoofers dual voice coil or single voice coil. Once I know that I can help you. I think the JL amp is not recommended below a 2ohm load.

Voice coils

Hello. I do speaker reconing and amp rebuilds for a living and the L7's often suffer from tinsel leed wire breakage which can cause "poping" and "screaching" noises in the sub in various cone positions. You need to remove the sub and push straight down on the cone repeatly and determine if you can feel or hear crunching noises to make sure the voice coil and/or spider are not damaged. A faulty leed wire can usually be identified by a dark spot or obvious breakage. All of the L5 and L7 models can be successfully repaired as long as they are the older models that have a center cap in the cone. The newer capless models will have to have an upper brace cap glued to all of the cone's fingers and will have a rather ugly appearance. Leed wire overhauls usually run around $30.00 for the older models. Voice coil and spider overhauls run around $90.00.
