Speaker audio .

The reason is the system is likely designed to use 8 Ohms and 4 ohms will cause a problem like you describe. Either find 8 ohms speakers or a 4ohm to 8 ohms matching transformer.

No audio output on transmit modelyeasu ft840

Hi,

Are you referring to reception through your radio speaker, or transmission to another station?

If it's reception, then what antenna are you using, indoor or outdoor?

I need answers to these questions, before I try to resolve your issue.

Please reply with as much detail as possible, don't be afraid to ask questions in full detail, the more info I receive, the sooner I can assist you.

Best regards,
Peter

Yamaha R-840, It has a flashing power led on the front, but wont turn on or off or do anything

This problem could be caused by leaky or open capacitors in the power supply circuit. Known problems in this unit. Look on the power supply board near the connections that would go to the amplifier or pre amp boards. This would be the secondary of the power supply. Look for bulged tops of the capacitors. Is a good start.

Hi i have a yaesu ft 840 the display go's blank and then it flashes till a turn it off how can i fix this thankyou

1: Remove regulator board (has the two 78xx IC's mounted on it).
This board is mounted to the mid-chassis, heat-sunk with a gray rubber gasket behind it. It's connected to the main board via pin&pinch pad, in the back by the audio IC.
2: Check the IC's, replace if faulty.
3: re-stress the pins and look for cold or broken solder joints.
4: Re-install and check. You should have your display back and it will probably go to 7.000MHz (default out of the box).

You can replace your audio and receive transistors with a new one or a compatible one and be back on the road again. the transistors are available from all ham dealers and are normally not too expensive.
do not try to fix something that ain't broke. if it is working, leave it.

AC line interference

I experienced very similar or the same problem with FT-840. When power is inceased over about 50 W, an AM on RF signal arises. Even when TCVR is supplied from accu and connected to dummy load. Period of interferencing signal is about 7.5 ms (130 Hz), so it cannot be hum from mains. I have not opened the PA block yet but i guess, it could be caused by damaged capacitor(s). Jiri
