To answer your question directly, yes. But, Depends on the settings of TIME machine and what OS you have. If you have Mavericks or Yosemite, then when you boot, hold down the option key. This will bring you to something called the "Boot Manager" you should have a System recovery option, launch that. From there it should be obvious what steps to take.

If you don't have one of those two operating systems, the easiest way is to install an OS onto the HD you want, then do a migration of data from the Time Machine Backup. The Migration option will come up when the OS is installed and it reboots for the first time. if you choose not to Migrate your data, you can do it later from the "Utilities" Folder in the "Applications" folder. there is an app there called "Migration Assistant" it will walk you through the steps.

I would recommend just migrating right at the initial boot. Otherwise you will end up with an extra User account.

Best of Luck, and I am thrilled to know you have a Time Machine Backup! You are WAY ahead of the curve there!

What System Restore not working. Gives a volume shadow copy timed out error when trying 2 create a restore point. if i try 2 update windows or create a system image it goes days not going anywhere.??

If system restore not working you can always try to do a repair operation with the disks that came with your machine. If you have no disks you are out of luck and will have to reload the machine with new software.

If concerned about losing data/files you can remove the hard drive and install it as secondary on another working machine, download the files you want to a usb stick and reload the hard drive and re install the files you previously saved. Good luck

HDD mount failure on Toshiba 351c copier

"HDD mount" means it has an internal hard drive (HDD, or hard disk drive), and the copier has failed to "mount" (place in operation) that disk drive. That error means that the internal hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. It will very likely need to be a special proprietary hard drive, preloaded with some sort of operating system for the copier, and you'll need to get it from a dealer.

I own a emachine w3622 and changed the hard drive. The computer reconizes the new hard drive but when I go to use the operating system disk that came with my computer says disk boot failure. Not only that...

The disk that came with your system is a recovery disk only. You will need a full installation disk from your local retailer or you can match the OS from your old HDD and use the serial key on the side/back of your machine. If you just wanted more space, install both drives and set the original one as the boot drive. the new drive, if properly installed (refer to your hdd instructions and jumper settings) you will see the second drive under "My Computer" as additional storage
GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE RATE THIS POST AS FIXYA!!

As soon as turn computer on it says operating system not found -- i can get it to go to one other thing and it ask for HDD user password which i have no earthly idea what it can be

1. i hope you have backed up of all your data from the HDD.
2. format the HDD and reload the OS - but this time, make sure that you have atleast 2 partitions.
3. keep all your important in the second (non-system) partition.
4.after you have reloaded the OS, please get a good anti-virus and anti-spyware application and scan your computer regularly with them.

Disk boot failure

Hi,

Technically you can copy all the data from one to another hdd but not the operating system

You have to install your operating system (windows, linux or MAC) on your new 500gig hdd and then copy your data from 60gig hdd.

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

check your harddrive, is it detected in bios ?
if no, it could be motherboard or hdd, but most of the time is hdd problem, so just replace it.
if yes, your operating system is corrupt, so you can reload your operating system.

Trouble Reloading Start-Up Disk on Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301

Please try changing the HDD. If same thing happens the problem may be with ur O/s Cd or the Mother board
Please let me know this is used machine or New one. If new one please take a different O/S cd and install it.

If you are installing XP and your HDD is SATA then you need sata drivers.
