Well moondoggie, it sounds like your light is staying on. You can depress the light switch while the door is open to confirm this. If it doesn't go out, you need a new switch.
If this model is a frost free, you probably have a bad defrost system. That would make the unit freeze up and cold air can not get through to cool the unit properly.
First make sure that ur frig.is level. Then checx the cooling coils in the back. Make sure that all the vents,frig. and frezzer, are clear. Ur moisture control could be another factor.
replace the switch before the seal, nothing wrong with gasket., you may need to raise the refrig door a bit by , remove the door and install a small spacer to raise the door slightly for better contact
