One flouresent tube in two tube fixture will not light

If your shop is in your garage, and it is cold outside, the two-pin fluorescent tubes don't work very well. Garage lighting (fluorescent) should be the HO (high output) type. It operates on the same voltage. The tubes are not interchangeable. You need a HO fixture. If your shop is inside your house, then flickering tubes (assuming that you tried changing them out with new ones) indicate a bad ballast inside the fixture. You can either change out the ballast, or for almost the same price, replace the fixture.

If they are slotted fixtures and pins on the ends of the tubes, turn off the power and push the fixture slots off the tube. The heat generated may have warped the ends towards the tube. Use a flat screwdriver -carefully and put it between the end and the fixture slot. Make sure that the tube is in the vertical position with the pins and it should come out

Do you have back lighting. Shine a light on the screen. If you can barely see a picture the set has no backlight but video is good. This would rule out the main board. Not shure if this set is LED backlight or flouresent tube back light. If flouresent tube check for voltages to inverter board. 24v or 15v. They are marked on the board. If voltages are there likely inverter board. or could be power brd. Check pricing on new tv.

A Lot of the T8 style have very little room to move the tubes around, check a few things:
See if you need to remove the tubes in a specific order,
See if the ends of the fixture are removable,
Instead of dropping both ends of the tube drop one side first,
Sometimes after the tube has been twisted and dropped slightly you may have to maneuver the pins to avoid the fixture.

ballast--- -usually a ballast transformer used in flouresent lights to turn 120 volts ac into 2000 or 3000 volts ac at a lower amperage. the ballast transformer has 4 nuts ,one at each corner for physical mounting .2 wires for the ac line cord and 4 wires for the flouresent tube. wires are connected together with wire nuts that can be pulled off the wires while unscrewing the wire nuts.
make a picture of what color wires go where,take wires off one at a time and make pictures. the wires are not interchangable and must go back exactly where they came off from or the unit will never work again.
many ballast transformers have an electrical diagram showing where the wires go. you may need a magnifing glass to see it well enough read it. Please study the diagram and understand it before you begin disassembly.

with the electricity on ,you can be electrocuted by either the 120 volts ac or the 3000 volts ac that means crash,burn and fry.
so de-energize first.
The replacement ballest must be rated for the wattage of the flouresent bulbs ,the length of the flouresent bulbs and the diameter of the flouresent bulbs. that are in the lighting fixture. the flouresent bulbs also have their own make and model numbers.the model numbers of the bulbs are standardized throughout the industry. The model number of the flouresnt bulbs that a ballast will work with is on thw ballest sticker, on the cardboard box and on the directions.the salesman in the flouresent ballest [lamp] section at home depot or lowes should also be able to help you.

even if there is power at the sockets, ballast may not have power to fire off the lamps, how old is this fixture, and you need to replace the ballast same as in fixture, if you replace ballast make diagram of wiring so you can rewire it like it was wired from store.

Well, I got an email back from Cooper Lighting. They do not sell a yellow bulb for this fixture. HOWEVER, they gave me the specs for the bulb, and by punching those specs into Google, I was able to find a seller on eBay who sells this product.

They want $15.99 plus $6.99 shipping for this 4-pin light bulb that fits my fixtures outside my back door and in front of my garage door.... just because it is yellow (bug light) instead of white. These things are almost impossible to find. However, I refuse to spend that much for a yellow bulb, especially since I need TWO of them (two fixtures), and they cost MORE than the whole fixture did. Instead, I went online and purchased some yellow fluorescent tube guards... the kind you use to put on regular fluorescent tubes to make them appear a different color (they also provide a safety net in case the tube breaks or shatters), and I will cut it to the proper length and place it over the existing bulb to make it yellow. Since the tube is 4 feet long, I will have plenty to make several covers. Problem solved at less than half the price.

I would suggest you call in an Electrician. It sounds like there is a definate short somewhere and if you don't address the issue immediately, there could be a very real issue of a fire. Please do not put this off as something that may fix it's self. hope this helps.

Pull on the end of the fixture (receptical). The fixture is made so that the receiving end of the recepticals slide off and on. Make sure your pulling on the receptical part and not from the bulb or cover. Just pull (mine seemed to have one end looser than the other, I pulled on the looser end) and it slides off. After your one end is off, lift the bulb and plastic tube cover out and replace as needed.
