My KCMS185JSS-5 microwave has no heat. It seems to be running, the light and turn table all work, but it won't heat water.

hi..Your micro hood is "shot".so it is not working properly.
The food may not be heating, but the electrical and the walls
of the unit might heat. This may cause sparking and melting
of the interior of the unit.

KCMS185JSS-1 Microwave test results

Assuming your power line voltage is right, bearing the whole thread in mind, I'm sure you have a bad magnetron.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

If you follow the safety & disassembly info, this is not a difficult job for a do-it-yourselfer.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The "auto Sensor" on my kitchenaid KCMS185JSS microwave does not work, but everything else does.

That's probably a failed humidity sensor, and repairing that is a pretty easy do it yourself job.

On most new MW ovens, the door will lift off the hinges once the top grille is removed. There are two screws on the top that hold the grille in place.
