SOURCE: How do I turn on alternate monitor

First thing to do before using the function key is to change the displayed resolution of your laptop, make it standard like 1024 x 768.or 800 x 600 resolution.

In Windows XP operating system:
Right click on your desktop screen choose properties, go to settings tab, change the screen resolution.

Then try to use the function key + F5

Microsoft Office Product Activation issue Work around
Once Microsoft Office 2007 has been installed with no product key, proceed with the following steps:
1. In Windows Explorer, brose to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en\
2. Right click on Proof.XML file, select "Open With…" in the right click menu.
3. In the "Open With" window, select Notepad to be used to open the XML file. In Vista, if you can’t see the Notepad option, simply double click the "Other Programs" to unhide it.
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Proof.XML to locate the following lines:
</Feature> <Feature Id="SetupXmlFiles" Cost="1248′>
<OptionRef Id="AlwaysInstalled"/>
</Feature>
5. Change the AlwaysInsalled to neverInstalled so that the line looks like following:
<OptionRef Id="neverInstalled"/>
6. Save the Proof.xml file. In Windows Vista, you may need to take ownership and grant full access permission to yourself before able to modify the file.
7. You can now launch Microsoft Office 2007 application such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and etc without prompting for activation.
As usual, as it’s a hack, and before you purchase a valid product key for it, you won’t be able to AND can’t access any updates or Microsoft Office Online.

How do I hook a an external monitor up to a hp dv6 1355 with a cracked screen?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=4043282&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Product information > Product specifications > Product specifications;

External Ports:
1 VGA (15-pin)

Manuals > Notebook Tour - Windows 7;

Left-side Components - External Monitor Port
Left/Rear side of laptop,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

You can use a CRT type of monitor (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

(You can also use an HDTV if it has an HDMI port, and you have an HDMI cable. The HDMI port is on the Left side of the laptop, too.

{Don't buy an HDMI cable that is expensive. Just a waste of money.
Those gold plated parts are just a little bit better, than an HDMI cable that doesn't have it. $20 for an HDMI cable is PLENTY. (12 Feet) I use one's that cost less )

A) Laptop OFF, monitor (External display device) OFF.
Connect the VGA monitor to the VGA port, on the laptop.

Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

There ARE at least 3 display options available;

1) Internal monitor ONLY
2) Internal monitor AND external display device (VGA monitor in this example)
3) External display device ONLY

Press, and hold the Fn key down, tap once on the F4 key.
(The F4 key is the Display Toggle-Over key)

Wait a few seconds.
Still no?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F4 key.

When I turn on my HP Pavilion 1x1000 It stays on ,but there is no image on the screen, and stays on please help.

A) Post THE Product Number on the bottom of the laptop. It's in the white Service Tag. P/N = Product Number.

B) On the left/bottom side of the LCD screen frame (Display Bezel), there is a switch. Looks like a small button.

This is the Internal Display Switch. (May not be in this exact position for your model. Look around on the Display Bezel, that surrounds the LCD screen)

When the laptop is closed, the switch turns off the display, (Image on screen), with the computer still on.
Tap it a couple of times lightly, with the eraser on the end of a number 2 pencil.

See if anything happens. That switch may be bad.

C) Laptop off, monitor off, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the laptop.

Example of a VGA cable, and VGA connector, (Port),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

You can use a CRT monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

C) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type of monitor allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By factory default settings, the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

IF not;
There are at least 3 display options,

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. At the same time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

Don't know what exact HP laptop you have. For most HP's it is the F2 key, or the F4 key, that is the Display Toggle-Over key.
(Key has an empty rectangle on it, with a vertical line on each side)

Still no display on the external VGA monitor?
Hold the Fn key down again. (Bottom left of Keyboard)
Tap once more on the Display Toggle-Over key

NO display on the external VGA monitor, means you have a bad graphics chipset.

(By using an external VGA monitor, you are bypassing the Internal Display Switch, and the Display Assembly. (Internal monitor of laptop)

If you have a display on the external VGA monitor, you have a problem with;

1) Video Cable, (Display Panel Cable for HP)
or
2) Display Assembly

Post back with your results, and if you have a display on the external VGA monitor, we will go on.

If you do not have a display on the external VGA monitor, you are looking at motherboard replacement.

Post back in a Comment.

I need to type in my product key number to

On the side of your desktop or on the bottom of the laptop there should be a sticker that has the KEY on it, when it request it you can type it in there. if it's a copy you purchased then the key would come on a small insert with the disc. and would be 5 sections of XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX just yours will have random letters and numbers but in that format.

Hi,

My living room monitor faced the same issue before.

I called up Acer, and they fixed the power LCD board in the monitor.

Do not buy a new one yet, unless the warranty is over.
