Hi, The water tray on the machine is probably broken where it connects to the motor. I have the same problem, and am trying to reach Greenway to see if I can get a replacement part. this seems to be a common problem with this ice maker.
My friend bought this item last week at Target for the $99 sale price. The reviews were all horrible about the red light (add water) indicator going on after the first or several first ice cube runs and never going out. About 40 out of 60 reviewers had this problem. We experienced it right after the first run when the ice cube full light went on. We emptied it and the add water red light was on. I looked all over the web for a solution and only found one that suggested tilting the unit backwards for 45 degrees and that would magically reset the light. It did not after several angles, light taps and basic shaking. Since there was no alternative and everyone who returned it also got the exact same problem with the new replaced model - we decided to open it up and investigate.
The electronics diagram is on the back of the machine and tell you where the water indicator is. We took it out (an inch long black tube along the water pump and backflow valve) and dried it completely. The cycle still had the red light. We submerged it completely in water and the red light still went on saying that the unit needs water. We determined that this is the bad part and the water indicator is faulty. We cut it out and joined the two wires. IT ALL WORKS NOW FLAWLESSLY. You only have to shut the unit off when you leave since it will ocntinue to run if out of water. If you're looking for a quick mechanical fix and have a unit that works when you need it and you are around - this isthe fix.
