SOURCE: tub bangs and seems to be spinning out of round

One of the support arms on the back of the spin basket (stainless steel tub) is broken and causing it to spin in the fashion you describe. The only fix is to replace the spin basket. Using it in its current condition will cause serious damge to the outer tub shell. Let me know if you decide to replace it or need assistance locating a replacement tub. I can assist you in how to disassemble the washer and how to reinstall a new tub. Sorry...I wish this was better news.

SOURCE: kenmore washer wobble, banging

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.24902200&pathTaken=partSearch

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If you look at the section on "Machine Base Parts" you'll see a number of springs and vibration pads.

It's possible that one or more of the springs or pads has come loose or broken.

In order to get to them you have to remove the cabinet.

Here is a description of how to do it.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=90fdc122f6335c7c64f46f2ea1b1c887

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for top load washers. It has a troubleshooting section that describes the reasons for excessive walking or vibration.

If it's not the springs or pads, you may consider that the "Agitator Cams" in the transmission are not raising the Agitator Gear high enough (about 1/16" ) when the washer goes into spin mode.

See the description of what the Cams do in the Service Manual.

We had the same problem, excessive vibration and noise during the spin cycle.

In order to solve that problem, :

Assuming that you know how to remove the cabinet, agitator (you don't need to remove the tub), pump, motor and transmission the agitator cam and follower use the same whirlpool part number 62580/01. This is a plastic set used to raise the agitate gear on the shaft.

Pull the transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

Remove the transmission cover.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

The two plastic agitate cam parts pull right off. Don't lose the washer on top of the cams.

Replace the cams, washer, spring and clip, pinion, oil (assuming you drained the oil first), cover and clutch parts.

Line up the transmission so that the release cam on the brake drum will snap onto the clutch spring retaining clip and put all parts back in the washer.

The basic tools are screwdriver, small socket set with up to a 1/2" socket, vice grips or good pliers (to remove and replace clips)

It sounds a bit complicated but it really isn't too bad and (For a $15 part, saved buying a $170 transmission.)

Following is the Whirlpool parts list for their commercial washers although the consumer models use the same part numbers.

Bad bearings or the inner tub mount called a spider. Buy a new washer. sorry :(

Tip

Replacing a Rear Tub Bearing

Rear Tub Bearing Replacement
(Part 1 of 3)

This advice is for replacing the rear wash tub shell of most Kenmore Elite HE model FRONT LOADERS, along with Whirlpool Duet, and some Frigidaire FRONT LOADER models. This is a repair that would be rated as difficult due to the extensive disassembly and reassembly of components.

The requirement to replace the rear wash tub shell is usually attributed to the rear tub bearing failure in which the bearings are molded into the tub and cannot be replaced otherwise. In some situations the replacement of the inner spinner basket (stainless steel tub) may also be required due to the corrosion and breakage of the spider arms in the back of the basket that support the basket.

SYMPTOMS: Washer exhibits excessively loud “rumbling” type noise during the spin cycle, excessively vibrates, or won’t spin at all.

DETERMINING IF THE BEARING AND SPIN BASKET ARE BAD: With the washer door open, place your hand inside the basket and push straight up. If there is excessive play in the tub (wobbles up and down) the bearing is probably bad. If the spinner basket scrapes against the outer tub shell when you give it a spin, you will have to replace the inner spin basket as well. Unfortunately, you cannot see the condition of spinner basket supports until it is removed from the outer tub shells. In some cases, a brownish colored stain my show up on clothing as the bearing seal has been breached and leaks into the spinner basket.

Before starting this repair, make sure you read through all instructions thoroughly and place the washer is in an area that gives you plenty of space to work.

I have a kenmore elite HE5t steam front load washer that keeps putting up f20 error the water lines are not plugged water is flowing into it i moved it out to check the water lines and it ran 3 loads then...

I've seen this complaint 5-6 times within the last month. Try this. Remove the top panel by removing the three screws along the back and pushing the panel back and then lifting up. Locate the pressure sensor mounted on the right side of the machine. Check the pressure sensor hose very carefully for splits or cracks caused by chafing on the tub. You really need to look closely, it only takes a tiny pin hole. If damaged, replace hose and make sure the new hose is routed properly, not taped to the tub as some of the new ones have been for some reason.

My kenmore elite top load washer was rinning perfect til it got dropped 8 inches during a move now the whole tub seems loose and it wont balance when the spin cycle is on Help

Your support plate under tub above gearcase was knocked out of place, lean washer back and try to adjust plate back in place were it is sitting back on the glides. This is not an easy task bu it can be done, sometimes it is best to call a repairman to do the repair so he can check if there is any more damage.

I have a Kenmore top loading washing machine model 92529110. My wife has been noticing that the tub leans toward the front causing the water to hit the back edge of the tub instead of running straight into...

The machine needs to be leveled. Unscrew the front legs until the machine is level. If there isn't enough screw, or if your floor is really uneven, put a board under the front legs. After you get the front level, lean the machine toward you, tilting it front, until the back feet are about 3 inches off the floor. Let the machine drop. This will set the back legs into position. They are self leveling.

Tub spins out of round

When that happens it is usually because of a drum bearing problem, have it replaced before this damages more parts.
